Darryl Grob will be the best Pitkin County Commissioner we have ever had.
Just imagine a world where a PitCo commissioner uses practical, common sense reasoning and thorough research before making a decision. A construction oriented thought process that uses logic and problem solving skills on behalf of the highest good of getting resolution and forward movement for all.
Gosh, we might end up leaving behind the crazy displays of politics and ego. Such as the "Great Castle Creek Guardrail Conspiracy" of Rachel Richards.

It is truly rare to see a group of concerned citizens running for any office with the character and integrity manifested by the four men running for Pitkin County commissioner this year! I say that with a real sense of knowing as I have watched a large number of these elections and they typically do not offer the slate of capable candidates that this election does.
I could cast my vote for any one of them but firmly believe that Darryl Grob would be the best choice for county commissioner from the lot. I first met Darryl shortly after he arrived in Aspen as he joined the Aspen Volunteer Fire Department. He rapidly became a superior firefighter, a captain and ultimately the Fire Department's first and only paid fire chief.
At that time it was essential that we hired someone from within to oversee the huge task of building four new fire stations and retrofitting our entire fleet of firefighting apparatus. Darryl fit the bill perfectly and completed those tasks with amazing proficiency — come by and visit our Hopkins Avenue station to see the legacy of his work.
Darryl is the kind of commissioner that I feel fits the bill for Pitkin County, as well. He is meticulous with his attention to detail. He is a tireless worker who will never be unprepared for any meeting, any decision nor any discussion on the street or in the chambers. "Voters in the Rifle Fire Protection District can cast ballots on Tuesday, May 8 and will choose between three incumbents and a former director to fill three seats on the district board of directors.
They include incumbents Yvonne Long, Rex Rhule and John Sandquist. Former director Lee Martens is seeking to return to the board. He served for four years, before he lost his seat in the 2010 election. Long and Sandquist are each seeking a second, four-year term, while Rhule is running for a third term.
The Rifle district serves some 24,000 people spread out over 411 square miles, including the Rifle city limits. Voters can cast ballots on May 8 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the district office, 1850 Railroad Ave.
The Citizen Telegram asked each candidate to provide their background and experience and to identify the top issues facing the district. Each provided e-mail answers, which were only edited for clarity, spelling and style....." (Read more? Click title)

Actually, Ms. Irvine.
Voters are most likely to put all of your points into the lowest category of priority when choosing a candidate.
What the folks really want is the right person for the job. Not that person's personality or political skills. And since character, values and morals are also not part of the job and in this day and age of political enviros nearly impossible to see up front? They put all that into the category of spin the bottle.
After doing some digging, I think your campaign would be well-advised to climb down off the moral high-horse and focus on letting us all know what and how you intend to do the job you're seeking. Along that path you may want to go back and revisit what people have actually been saying about you. I think you will see that there has been far less attacks on your 'character' than you think there have been.

That's not enough — you have to have a strong core.
If you are contemplating running for office, think long and hard. If you want to run because you have a message to get out or for personal gain, think again. In fact, spare us all and forget about it.
I ran for state representative in 2010 because I wanted to make a difference in our district. To offer a different way of helping create jobs, setting our children on a path with quality education and improving the economic landscape of our district and Colorado. My reason for running for state representative for HD61 in the 2012 election remains constant.
Recently there have been public attacks on my character. Some people have said, “That's what you should expect when you run for office.”
No. You should not. Civility should not be a thing of the past. Doing the “right thing” shouldn't be either...."

How important is the Hot Sulpher Springs municipal election to the residents of Basalt?
Frisco to Silt?
Critically important. All politics are local politics. The entire demographic that surrounds you and the community you live in has an effect on your overall community health.
The news in Carbondale is terrific. Congrats to Bonedale for defeating Bill Lamont.
The news in Basalt is deeply troubling. RFTA board member and crony just about everywhere Jacque Whitsitt pulled in her...well. Cronies...and defeated Glenn Rappaport for Mayor. Yes, Scott Condon is in a happy gloat this morning up on the Aspen Times.
Blue River held an election for the first time in decades and thus made history.
Basalt is keeping their plastic bags and Fruita said no to medical marijuana.
Winter Park folks voted in their very own and first ever lodging tax to use for tourism promotion.
We'll go with our fav's over on the Eagle County Times as the post to hold regional links this morning. Enlighten yourself as to what is going on around you out there.
It's a brave new world.

"ECT Analysis: If Eagle’s election is any harbinger of Eagle’s ERS vote scheduled for Tuesday, May 22nd 2012 – it doesn’t look too good for the Voter Approval of the ERS development project… Eagle’s top vote getter (Brandi Resa) and Eagle’s newly elected Mayor – campaigned against Eagle River Station – and everyone voting in Eagle knows it. It also shows that the majority (barely) of Eagle voters aren’t much concerned with the state of Eagle’s struggling economy and clearly are not convinced ERS v2.0 is what Eagle needs to move ahead economically.
ECT caught wondering…if all the families that have since lost their Eagle/Gypsum homes due to Job Loss and moved out of Eagle/Gypsum…were still here to vote…what would today’s election results look like?
The ECT thinks it’s time to keep track of the (NEW) number of home foreclosures in Eagle/Gypsum (by Zip code) – right after this new crew is sworn into office. So the ECT will!
