SandBoxBlogs: Iowa Republican "Romney Cruises in Five More Primary States"

"Mitt Romney’s bid for the GOP presidential nomination took a major step forward Tuesday night. Rick Santorum’s departure from the race enabled Mitt Romney to completely dominate Tuesday’s primaries in five Northeast states. Romney garnered more than 56 percent of the vote in Connecticut, Delaware, New York, Pennsylvania, and Rhode Island.
His resounding victories enabled Romney to acquire almost all of the 231 delegates at stake. New York was the big prize, where 95 delegates were up for grabs. Romney now needs to pick up around 400 more delegates to reach 1,144 and surpass the threshold necessary to clinch the nomination.
The former Massachusetts governor barely campaigned in any of the states. His victory speech was delivered from New Hampshire, where he launched his presidential bid. “Everywhere I go, Americans are tired of being tired and many of those who are fortunate enough to have a job are working harder for less,” Romney said. “To all of you, I have a simple message: Hold on a little longer. "Drew Maloney has been the man behind the curtain for some of the biggest names in the Republican Party.
Maloney, CEO of Ogilvy Government Relations, has been heavily involved in both of former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney’s (R) presidential campaigns. Maloney has helped organize the candidate’s trips to Washington to meet with lawmakers and set up fundraising events. He has even done some volunteer phone-banking and door-knocking in Iowa and New Hampshire.
A close colleague at the firm said Maloney is “the head of the ‘congressional complaints department’” for Romney’s campaign.
“That is a very important role because campaigns are very fast-moving and sometimes the invitations and notifications aren’t what members and senators were expecting. Drew manages all that,” said Wayne Berman, chairman of Ogilvy’s lobby shop and a Romney fundraiser, adding that demand for those services will increase now that “Gov. Romney is the presumptive nominee.”

"Mitt Romney’s campaign has used a money advantage to shut out the competition. As I said when he won Ohio, Romney will be the nominee.
The way forward for Romney depends on the economy. For the longest time I did not think he had much of a shot against the President, but as I’ve said several times recently, the economy seems to be struggling, which gives Romney an opening.
Between a struggling economy and a President who wants to have it both ways in rhetoric and in practice wants to side with those hostile to the idea of American exceptionalism, Romney has an opening if he’ll aggressively take it.
If I may be so bold, I think the greatest thing Karl Rove or Reince Priebus or Mitt Romney or any outside group could do right now is introduce the American Public to what I’ve started doing on my radio show: recounting the amazing adventures of President Both Ways..." (Read more? Click title)

"The media and a lot of Republicans are ready to hand the GOP nomination to Mitt Romney. We’re not prepared to do that here on TIR quite yet. However, with many viewing the race is all but over, speculation about the vice-presidential pick is ramping up. So, why not join in the fun.
Here is a list of 15 potential VP picks, in no particular order, along with their pros and cons. Some on this list have said they are not interested in becoming VP. Don’t believe them. No one turns down this job...."
