SandBox Comments: Aspen Daily News/Jeremy Madden "Good versus evil on the gridiron"

Looks like we have the makings of another 'Madden Classic'  this week:

Jeremy Madden:

"On one side stands the virgin, clean of body and pure of mind. On the other side stands the evil emperor and his protégé, soiled and stained by scandal.

In a classic showdown of good versus evil, football fans will witness a battle of Old Testament origins on Sunday, as the Denver Broncos host the New England Patriots in a game of Biblical proportions.

Like a prophet with a pig skin, Denver quarterback Tim Tebow has been working miracles on the football field for the last 40 days and 40 nights. After six fourth-quarter victories, in only 11 games, Tebow has set an NFL record as well as earning himself a reputation as a miracle worker. But instead of working with loaves and fishes or walking on water, Tebow is changing losses to wins and walking on goal lines.

Tebow wears his faith on his sleeve like it was his number. Kneeling, praying and praising are an active part of his game. And it’s working. An amazing catch, an unlikely turnover or another long field goal, there is no doubt his faith is inspiring his teammates and the Denver Broncos are winning games as if by divine intervention.

In three days Tebow and the Broncos will meet the closest thing the NFL has to an Evil Empire when they confront Brady, Bellicheck and the rest of the New England Patriots. After winning successive Super Bowls and being branded a dynasty the Patriots, perhaps ironically, became the New York Yankees of the NFL. Brady was even seen sporting a Yankees cap. As the best, they were hated. With Brady’s beauty and Bellicheck’s hoodie it was easy to compare them to the evil Empire of Star Wars. But after the Patriots got busted for cheating in spygate, people really started to hate them and they became the Hatriots...."

SandBox Comments: Aspen Times/Melanie Sturm "America's ‘Tebows' await their start"

One of The Valley's most respected conservative opinion columnists, Melanie Sturm with a good column on changes America could make immediately to help boost the economy.

Wonder who Sturm is supporting in the presidential races?

"...As improbable as the moniker “Tim Tebow, starting NFL quarterback” once seemed, the U.S. economy, like Tebow, is showing signs of resurgence.

News that the U.S. unemployment rate fell from 9.0 to 8.6 percent in November (though due largely to job seekers exiting the market) is as surprising as Tebow's 6-1 record since becoming the starter. His late-fourth-quarter magic and four come-from-behind victories earned Tebow his teammates' trust, his coaches' confidence and the adoration of Broncos fans.

If only America's private-sector “quarterbacks” were liberated to call their own plays and scramble like an unleashed Tebow, America could win the economic equivalent of the Super Bowl — GDP growth of 4.5 percent and unemployment of 6 percent. If you expect politicians to renounce micromanagement of the U.S. economy as NFL cognoscenti have stopped proclaiming Tebow an NFL bust, Think Again.

If politicians were as wise as Tebow's coach, they'd formulate strategies to get business owners off the sidelines...."
