SandBoxBlogs: Glenwood Springs Post Independent "Silt will lend $170,000 to help Dollar General store"
Hey, how about that Town of Silt, Colorado! Just look at these projections:

"...On Tuesday, the trustees voted unanimously to transfer $170,000 from the town's Water and Wastewater Activity Enterprise fund to a newly created Economic Development Revolving Fund. The revolving fund, according to the authorizing resolution passed by the trustees, is then to loan the $170,000 to the Silt Urban Renewal Authority.
The money is to be used to install utility lines, stormwater drains, curb and gutter, and other infrastructure.
In addition to the fund transfer, the trustees agreed to kick in $10,000 in town funds to the Dollar General Urban Renewal Project, mainly to pay for legal and engineering fees and for staff time spent on the project.
The $170,000 loan to the authority, for a period of up to 15 years, is to earn 3 percent interest. It is to be repaid from sales and property tax revenues generated by the store.
According to town documents, the new store has projected annual sales of $1 million, which is expected to generate $30,000 in annual sales tax receipts. The town also expects to receive more than $14,000 in annual property tax revenues, based on the expected $900,000 value of the Dollar General building.
In addition, the town expects the store will generate roughly $20,000 per year in tax increment financing, or TIF, payments, based on the increased taxable value of the property as a result of the efforts of the urban renewal authority..." (Read more? Click title)

SandBox Comments: Glenwood Springs Post Independent/Your Letters "Clarifying details on Silt Urban Renewal Authority"

It really isn't "incredibly intense scrutiny", Rick.
It's a systemic problem of a style of yellow journalism that the PI creates, perpetuates and enhances at every opportunity. Accomplishing nothing but harm to area residents and communities.
SandBox doesn't support Silt's URA at state and federal levels. But, we do support Silt developing a working relationship with GarCo. We should be keeping all of the money, including the seed and capital funds, right here at home.

SandBox Comments: Glenwood Springs Post Independent/Your Letters "Why is Silt's URA so appalling to BOCC?"
Posting up a letter to the editor by Carl McWilliams of Silt is like walking through a minefield for 'SandBox Nanny'.
She and a very large majority of the local population disagree with many of McWilliams views and how he goes about his anti-gas industry activism.
But today, McWilliams is dead on with his critcism of 'how' Garfield BOCC put Silt through its paces over their Urban Renewal request.
SandBox doesn't think there's some 'grand conspiracy' such as McWilliams insinuates in this letter.
We do think there is a glimpse into a growing sense of empowerment that does make one feel a little uneasy. With that said, we do not believe the friction is because we have an all Republican board of commissioners.
Our impression here on SandBoxBlogs is that the newly elected Jankovsky needs some balancing out and the way to do that is to change our county charter and laws to increase the board size from (3) commissioners to at least (6).
For a county the size of Garfield it is necessary.
As far as Silt and their assistance from GarCo, we know they will spend the money very wisely and the benefits from that renewal will be seen far and wide as a very, very good move on GarCo's part.

SandBox Comments: Glenwood Springs Post Independent "Garfield County pledges $1M for Silt infrastructure"
Now this, is much better. (See related stories and comments here.)
Our county should be looking after its own instead of pushing them out to the necessity of reaching for federal funding.
SandBox is sure this money is going to be spent very wisely. Silt Mayor Dave Moore and the Trustees are all doing a great job. Despite the very small handful of Silt residents who simply cannot seem to ever find anything to be positive and encouraged for when it comes to town politics.
Congratulations to the Town of Silt!
