"SALT LAKE CITY — Authorities say they believe a 56-pound methamphetamine bust in Salt Lake County over the weekend marks the largest meth seizure in Utah history.
A spokeswoman for the federal Drug Enforcement Agency says the drugs were found in a car at about 10 p.m. Sunday. The Salt Lake Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/KhCoiR ) the bust came as part of a year-long investigation into the Sinaloa cartel, one of Mexico’s dominant drug cartels.
DEA spokeswoman Sue Thomas says the meth had a street value of up to $5 million.
She tells the newspaper that the drugs were smuggled across the U.S. border packed in PVC pipe and in the ceiling of a car.
U.S. Attorney spokeswoman Melodie Rydalch, in Salt Lake City, would not disclose the number of people being charged but expects charges to be filed Tuesday....." (Read more? Click title)

Detectives from the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office and the 11th Judicial District Attorney’s Office in Salida took Paul Eugene Breer into custody at his Eagle County home Monday after obtaining an arrest warrant.
He faces felony charges including sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust.
Eagle County deputies assisted in the arrest and Breer was being held in lieu of $100,000 bond in the Eagle County jail pending transfer to Chaffee County....."

" Over time, strong economic growth is vital for strong job growth.
But early this year, hiring accelerated much faster than economic growth did. Job gains averaged a strong 229,000 in the first three months. But the economy grew at a sluggish annual rate of 2.2 percent.
Economists began to wonder: Would growth catch up with hiring? Or would hiring slow to match economic growth (as measured by gross domestic product, or GDP)?
Some economists say April's disappointing job growth suggests an answer, and it's not a cheerful one:

The six members of the House Ethics Committee have been meeting behind closed doors for more than a month, looking into a complaint that Haley lobbied on behalf of two employers, Wilbur Smith, a Midlands engineering firm that has done state work, and the Lexington Medical Center Foundation.

Officials with the television network announced Tuesday morning that Aspen will continue to be part of an expanded X Games lineup. Beginning in 2013, the action sports extravaganza will also host events in Foz do Iguacu, Brazil; Barcelona, Spain; and Munich, Germany. Existing X Games franchises in Los Angeles and Tignes, France will also stay put.
Tuesday's announcement, keeping the winter's largest event in town through 2014, marks the fourth time ESPN and Aspen Skiing Co. officials have extended the games' stay in Aspen since they first came to Buttermilk in 2002. The last contract, from 2009, expired after this year's event with no extension announcement, leaving many to speculate that the Winter X Games would be leaving Aspen, perhaps for Whistler, British Columbia, which had put in a bid to host the games.

"City officials announced yesterday, Apr. 3, that Andrew M. Barton has accepted and signed a contract as Mesquite's new City Manager. He is currently the Town Administrator for New Castle, CO, a town of 4,518 located on I-70, west of Glenwood Springs.

In a telephone interview with the Mesquite Citizen Journal, Barton confirmed the information released at the Council's Technical Review meeting and intends to begin his new job May 7. "I am very happy," Barton remarked. "I look forward to serving Mesquite. My wife is happy also. My present organization is stunned."
New Castle uses a similar form of government as Mesquite with six council members and a mayor. Its population is approximately 4,518 people. The town employs 25 full-time and 5 part-time employees with seven full-time and 1 reserve police officers.
"Many of the people in New Castle know a lot about Mesquite and come to play golf there," Barton commented. "My friends think I landed a plum assignment. I feel the same way."..."

SandBox Comments: Denver Post/Breaking News "Bail increased for former Arapahoe sheriff Pat Sullivan in sex-for-meth case"
SandBoxBlogs will post this one up because it is such a huge, huge story.
There will be no more postings done on this case unless there is significant and truly updated news reported.
Our reasoning is simple.
Our beloved everyday heroes in law enforcement have to be reeling from this news. There are just some circumstances in alleged crime reporting that serve no purpose to post except to bring further heartache or harm.
Try to remember that his name is just Patrick Sullivan. He no longer has anything to do with Arapahoe County or the S.O. there. A building's name can simply be changed.
Try to remember that we are a nation of law and the presumption of innocence is what those everyday heroes are supposed to be out there fighting for.
They are and until shown otherwise, we must believe and trust in that no matter how it looks on the surface.
