The memories of those on City Council are frighteningly short. Either that, or they weren’t paying attention to big local news stories in 2008. That was when 27 members of our community spent hundreds of hours meeting in mediated sessions to hash out a master plan for the Lift 1A area. Remember the COWOP? The neighbors, the developers, Aspen Skiing Co. representatives, then-Councilman Dwayne Romero, community development director Chris Bendon, Mayor Mick Ireland, as well as other interested Aspen residents, participated in the formal city process. Public comment was encouraged, welcomed and appreciated....
.....Landowners have recently proposed building 14 townhomes and 10 subsidized housing units on a section of the site, but council now wants them to build a lodge there. And ironically it’s Mick and Skadron leading the cry! Skadron feels that the proposed townhome/subsidized housing project “is not in the interest of the community.” (Apparently for Skadron, nothing is.) Mayor “hot bed” Ireland wants the developers to now find some “middle ground” so he can finally get some lodge rooms built. It would be funny if it were not true.

SandBox Comments: Aspen Times "Elected officials need a calculator"
Yes, Elizabeth. They most certainly do.
This topic of completely footing the bill for We-Cycle program founders Mirte Mallory and Philip Jeffreys to launch a private small business is one that has been hot among commentators for months.
Set aside the idiocy of the dollar amount they're asking for and the projections on selling a product that is unlikely to sell at even half of projections; do not forget that this subsidy was verbally granted by commissioners and council at a time and over the needs of Aspen's low-income childcare program.
Yes, thank goodness for Pitkin County Commissioner Robb Ittner. That brave Republican that took the leap into the Blue Sea at mid-terms.
He has a calculator and a clue.

Jack Johnson has been so venomous to Marilyn Marks and Elizabeth Milias over the years that he deserves everything they throw at him and more. In Bruce Berger’s judgment scale, Jack Johnson also goes out of his way to be a shark in a small pond, and I highly doubt he engages in winter sports of any kind. For many of us that call Aspen our home, I am proud to call Elizabeth Milias a friend. There is nothing hysterical about Elizabeth Milias and Berger’s catch-phrase sexism is more a reflection upon himself and the more negative aspects of the old guard than anything else."

Could it really be posssible that Aspen's city council, mayor and city attorney are truly incapable of seeing the chasm they've dug themselves out of what was a small hole?
My gosh, the ramifications of how much worse it is going to be when Marks and supporters win, again, and those ballots have to be revealed.
What, exactly, is the City of Aspen and Mayor Mick Ireland hiding?
Never before, until now in reading what has happened to Harvie Branscomb in this post off The Times, did SandBox believe there was anything amiss.

" When the appeals court recently ruled that voted anonymous ballots are indeed public records, instead of enabling and engaging public comment and expert opinion on whether or not to appeal the decision to the Colorado Supreme Court, City Council held a secret meeting.
In this meeting they “directed” Aspen’s city attorneys, who both have massive conflicts of interest, to potentially spend hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars to fight the ruling, — after all, it was Marilyn Marks who brought the original suit.
Meanwhile, Aspen’s bi-partisan Election Commission will be democratically engaging the public on Tuesday, Nov. 1 at 4 p.m. in council chambers to discuss the ruling and the issues at stake for Aspen should the city (read: Mick) pursue a legal battle with statewide implications on election integrity.
Mick and his councilmen seem to prefer sending the not-so-subtle message that “City Hall knows how you vote.”
Marilyn, on the other hand, along with Colorado’s election activists and most citizens say, “No one, especially the government, should know how anyone votes.”

Especially if whatever the cause is supports ink and photos.
Was he sent on this mission to Europe by the Aspenites?
No? He just decided to find a write-off and look for a way to make it a partial work trip?
But. All of this info he brought home is also found on Google. And that's free. From the comforts of City Hall.
