SandBox Comments: Red State "Barack Obama Throws Bill Clinton Under the Bus "
Erick Erickson:
"Historically when the left takes power in a country they begin to rewrite their history. Barack Obama, a quintessential leftist, has started doing that in the run up to his re-election. In his speech in Kansas last week, Obama claimed that at no time in our history had we ever spurred economic growth and prosperity by cutting taxes and deregulating.
He conveniently had to overlook John F. Kennedy’s tax cutting in the 1960′s. But more importantly and more relevantly, he had to ignore the Reagan Revolution of the 1980′s that brought about an explosion of economic growth. As Newt Gingrich pointed out yesterday, in one month in 1983 the Reagan Recovery generated more than one million new jobs.
Barack Obama and the Left must dismiss and gloss over this point. They must fixate on income inequality. They must fixate on poverty. Never mind that all levels of society saw benefit from the Reagan Revolution. While it was not equal, the overwhelming number of Americans alive at the time saw their standard of living go up.
The left would respond by arguing that it went up too much for some and not enough for others.
What they are actually saying is that they’d rather it had not gone up at all then to see some get even richer. While, as Reagan noted, the right measures the success of a welfare program by how many people are able to get off it, the left measures the success of welfare programs by how many people get on it.
And so it is that Barack Obama has to throw Bill Clinton under the bus to make his case for re-election...."

SandBox Comments: Grand Junction Daily Sentinel "Powderhorn opens"
A 35" base on opening day.
And the Aspen Skico is bragging about covering up 24" size rocks...
"Jim Giese’s snow surveillance began pre-Thanksgiving.
It was then that Giese began checking Powderhorn Mountain Resort’s webcam — often — to get a live look at what ski conditions would be like when mid-December arrived and Powderhorn opened.
On Thursday, the De Beque man got his answer.
Nearly 24 hours after the ski area circulated a photograph showing more than one foot of snow piled on its picnic tables, Giese, 51, joined others in taking the first turns of the season on Powderhorn’s 35-inch base.
“It’s midseason snow on opening day,” Giese said while breaking for lunch with some friends. “I’m wore out.”

SandBox Comments: Aspen Daily News/Jeremy Madden "Good versus evil on the gridiron"
Looks like we have the makings of another 'Madden Classic' this week:
Jeremy Madden:
"On one side stands the virgin, clean of body and pure of mind. On the other side stands the evil emperor and his protégé, soiled and stained by scandal.
In a classic showdown of good versus evil, football fans will witness a battle of Old Testament origins on Sunday, as the Denver Broncos host the New England Patriots in a game of Biblical proportions.
Like a prophet with a pig skin, Denver quarterback Tim Tebow has been working miracles on the football field for the last 40 days and 40 nights. After six fourth-quarter victories, in only 11 games, Tebow has set an NFL record as well as earning himself a reputation as a miracle worker. But instead of working with loaves and fishes or walking on water, Tebow is changing losses to wins and walking on goal lines.
Tebow wears his faith on his sleeve like it was his number. Kneeling, praying and praising are an active part of his game. And it’s working. An amazing catch, an unlikely turnover or another long field goal, there is no doubt his faith is inspiring his teammates and the Denver Broncos are winning games as if by divine intervention.
In three days Tebow and the Broncos will meet the closest thing the NFL has to an Evil Empire when they confront Brady, Bellicheck and the rest of the New England Patriots. After winning successive Super Bowls and being branded a dynasty the Patriots, perhaps ironically, became the New York Yankees of the NFL. Brady was even seen sporting a Yankees cap. As the best, they were hated. With Brady’s beauty and Bellicheck’s hoodie it was easy to compare them to the evil Empire of Star Wars. But after the Patriots got busted for cheating in spygate, people really started to hate them and they became the Hatriots...."

SandBox Comments: Aspen Daily News "Dear ESPN: Baby, please don’t go"
The Aspen Daily News is the only locally owned and operated print news in The Valley.
One of the reasons they come in as the local's fav is because their staff not only has a pulse, they're in tune with the folks. Most of the time.
"...Losing ESPN’s Winter X Games would be a tragedy for this community that we hope never comes to pass, but we don’t see any reason why it should. We have faith ESPN realizes that the town, the Aspen Skiing Co. and Buttermilk are the perfect hosts for the annual action-sports spectacular. We hope that the fact that we are heading into this January’s event without a contract to keep the games here past 2012 is simply a matter of ironing out the details.
Back in 2002, when the event first came to Aspen, just 36,000 people gathered at the base of Buttermilk over four days. Attendance has been on a steady upward trajectory since then, shattering records last season with more than 114,000 spectators.
The growing popularity of the event is no accident. First and foremost, the athletes who continually push their sports to new and eye-popping limits deserve credit. But a host of talented and passionate people both from ESPN, Aspen Skiing Co. and countless other organizations put the games on their shoulders every year, and the event keeps getting better.
The X Games breathed a new life into this community for which we are grateful. The event has introduced a new generation to Aspen that might have otherwise passed us over, fearing the media-constructed elitist vibe. However, there’s nothing quite like the X Games to show the true, fun-loving ski town heart of this place.
To be clear, we have scoured the North American resort landscape and we can’t think of a place better suited than Aspen to host the X Games. Where else can a resort operator hand over an entire mountain to the games? Where else can all the events be seen from one centrally located base area? And try finding the nightlife potential Aspen provides in Utah or the Canadian Rockies...."

SandBox Comments: Glenwood Springs Post Independent "Glenwood Springs teenager vying for paddling sponsorship"
The Kellogg Family is one of the best assets Glenwood Springs has. Awesome family.
Congratulations to Grady Kellogg!
Be sure to click the links below and vote.
Jeff Casperson:
"Grady Kellogg only took up kayaking three years ago. He's come a long way in a short time.
The Glenwood Springs 15-year-old is a finalist for Shred Ready's “The Search” contest. If he wins, he'd become a sponsored member of the Alabama helmet manufacturer's 2012 kayak team.
Kellogg, who has a background in video editing atop an affinity for outdoor sports of all kinds, submitted a short clip of himself performing tricks for the contest. His video won for the month of August, landing him a spot in the finals.
Finals voting is under way, and continues through Dec. 31 on Shred Ready's Facebook page.
A Shred Ready sponsorship would mean the world to Kellogg, whose dad, Dan, introduced him to the sport.
“It'd mean everything,” he said. “This is a huge contest. It'd be awesome if I could win this.”
Either way, making the finals is no pedestrian feat. “The Search” was open to any amateur kayaker or wakeboarder and began in May. Monthly winners made the finals cut, for which Kellogg submitted a second video.
“It's now posted on the Shred Ready Facebook page,” he said. “Whoever gets the most likes, gets sponsored....”

SandBox Comments: Durango Herald "Focus on bath salts rises"
If the photo is what the product looks like, there is no way anyone could even mistake it for real bath salts used in taking a bath.
Not to mention the fact that most women don't shop for spa care in a head shop.
"Bath salts first appeared in Durango about a year ago.
The bath salts sold at head shops and over the Internet are not intended for bathtubs; rather, they are a mixture of synthetic chemicals that are snorted, smoked or injected intravenously. They create a quick and intense high that has been compared to methamphetamine.
Street names for the drug include “red rocket” and “white devil.” The drug also can be packaged and sold under the guise of plant fertilizer.
Authorities are investigating other distribution cases involving bath salts, said Pat Downs, director of the Southwest Drug Task Force.
“We do anticipate additional arrests, but we don’t know when that will be,” he said.
The task force executed a search warrant a couple of months ago at Wild Side Gifts on north Main Avenue. No arrests have been made.
For months, manufacturers were able to sell bath salts legally by changing the drug’s formula by one molecule. But a new ban on “analogs” of the chemical compounds used to produce the high – cathinone and methcathinone – made it illegal to mimic the compounds for the purpose of human consumption, Downs said....."

The site is across the street from Herron Park and sits near the bank of the Roaring Fork River...."
