SandBox Comments: Breitbart TV "Obama Whines: ‘We’ve Been Spending The Last Three Years Cleaning’ Bush’s Mess Up"

Has anyone noticed how much less coverage Obama's campaign  is getting this time around?

Even as an incumbent the amount of ink and air-time is very low.

SandBox Comments: Aspen Times "Thousands of Colorado marijuana applications on hold"

"DENVER — Some 4,200 medical marijuana applications in Colorado are on hold at the state health department while investigators look at possible fraud.

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment announced Friday that marijuana registry applications from certain physicians are on hold after law enforcement officials witnessed potential patients being seen by someone other than a physician. Colorado law requires a "bona fide" doctor-patient relationship before a physician can recommend marijuana pot for certain ailments..."

SandBox Comments: Grand Junction Daily Sentinel "State Patrol apologizes to Palisade man after court dismisses charges"

(See related stories here and here)

"On Sundays, James Fletcher of Palisade regularly may have passed Don Moseman in the hallways of Canyon View Vineyard Church in Grand Junction.

On a Saturday in June, Fletcher believes he illegally was arrested by Moseman.

Fletcher said he thought he wasn’t angry anymore at Moseman, the now-former Colorado State Patrol trooper at the heart of a massive probe that is questioning the integrity of years of drunken-driving prosecutions in Mesa County.

“I had to give that anger back to God ... I believe in that Bible verse that says ‘vengeance is mine,’ ” said Fletcher, 51, owner of Jay Max Sales, a mining and drilling-industry parts business.

“I had a peace about things, but last night I couldn’t sleep,” he said. “It still kind of bugged me that it all happened.”

In a letter dated Dec. 1, Moseman’s last day with the State Patrol after a career that spanned two decades, State Patrol Maj. Barry Bratt wrote to Fletcher.

“An extensive investigation has been conducted into your concerns surrounding your arrest on June 25, 2011,” Bratt wrote in the letter. “It is my finding that mistakes were made in this investigation. I apologize to you on behalf of the agency that the trooper did not uphold the high expectations of the Colorado State Patrol. Please be assured that this incident will be handled in accordance with the rules and procedures established by the State Personnel System to ensure it does not happen again....”

SandBox Comments: Glenwood Springs Post Independent "City sales taxes continue to rebound"

Here's an alternate way of looking at the news, 'kids'.

There's no more 'lip gloss on the pig'.

You demanded that cheerleader rally type of unsubstantiated numbers reporting from a vendor be eliminated.

You shouted out for the city to be the voice.  While that city voice has yet to appear, it is coming.

Nothing can be done about how the local paper reports revenues, but John Stroud does give a little insight today into an inability to access city numbers for months after the fact.  Unlike every other municipality in the area, it appears the City of Glenwood Springs manager and finance department are steady running two months behind in getting their act together on detailed reports.

So, you have what you asked for.

That could be called progress.

On the other hand, 1.75% up overall from the previous year, when all other governments around us are 5% to 12% higher is so, so depressing.  Especially when one of the marketing vendor's board of directors and a prominent seat on the tourism board, Carl Moak, is still dreaming big of 2007 numbers.

A dream that ill-suits the responsibility of his position.

The hole we are in, because we are so far behind all others is still at around 60% to 70% loss is now headed into its 5th year.  We would have to perform, for a year straight at 50% increase in lodging and tax revenues just to climb out and flat-line to 2007 numbers.

1.75% cannot be called a rebound nor can it come close to being called progress.

John Stroud:
"For the year to date, sales taxes are up 1.75 percent over last year. Sales in 2011 continue to outpace monthly figures for both 2009 and 2010, a trend that began in June.

The numbers bode well for a strong finish to the year. However, retail sales remain behind the city's pre-recession numbers from 2007 and the first 10 months of 2008.

The city will release November numbers in early January, while the December and preliminary year-end numbers are reported in February...."

SandBox Comments: Aspen Daily News "Aspen needs a black dog of its own"

“A man is not a good man to me because he will feed me if I should be starving, or warm me if I should be freezing, or pull me out of a ditch if I should ever fall into one. I can find you a Newfoundland dog that will do as much.” — Henry David Thoreau Walden"

SandBox Comments: Aspen Times "It takes all types"

Nope.  Colson just isn't looking like he's going to find that slow boat, is he?

Maybe we'll all be fortunate and the Aspen Times will do a clean sweep of opinion columnists that need to be replaced with 'fresh' voices of insight.

"Dear Editor:

I came across John Colson's column for the first time in a while and realized he has yet to find his way aboard a slow boat to another, more fair, land. A magical place where there is no capitalism or opportunity to build upon one's success.

As my eyes meandered down the first nine or 10 lines, I became increasingly impressed with the clarity and creativity in which he describes our country's current challenges and the fact that “we are in a pickle.” His successful beginning quickly turns to frivolous descriptions of the sacrifices of the soldiers, American patriots of the Revolutionary War, whose bravery and hard work (yes, hard work!) gifted us with freedom.

His sadness that there are no true communist countries left in the world to which he can escape has left him content to stay right here in America, where he can continue to practice his right of free speech. Is this the only pillar of our great nation that he is truly fond of? Do you think our Founding Fathers would tip their “charming tri-cornered hats” to Mr. Colson's pickled words?

What about the free speech that the tea baggers are entitled to? Can't Donald Trump wear his hair any way he chooses? It's the differences in all of us that are the beauty of the human race. You can't ever eliminate the interests of the left, or the right...."
