SandBox Comments: Glenwood Springs Post Independent "Martin, Samson to seek re-election to Garfield County board"

Say YES to John Martin.

Say MAYBE to Mike Samson.  Time to wait and see if a viable conservative or independent steps up to race.

What GarCo voters really need to be focused on is getting a ballot measure together that increases our county representation to double what it is now. GarCo is one of the largest and most affluent counties in the state and is grossly under-represented.

John Stroud:
"GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colorado — Garfield County commissioners John Martin of Glenwood Springs and Mike Samson of Rifle plan to seek re-election to the Board of County Commissioners in the fall.

The incumbent commissioners, both Republicans, confirmed their intentions Monday. The 2012 election process officially kicks off this evening with the statewide GOP caucuses.

Two of the three seats on the Garfield BOCC are up for election in November. All three seats are currently held by Republicans.

Martin, 63, will be seeking his fifth term on the county board. He represents Commissioner District 2, which includes the eastern and northern sections of Glenwood Springs, plus New Castle and Silt.

Samson, 57, the current District 3 commissioner, will be seeking his second term as county commissioner. District 3 includes the Rifle, Parachute and Battlement Mesa communities...."  (Read more?  Click title)

SandBox Comments: Glenwood Springs Post Independent "Garfield GOP to caucus tonight"

As is Pitkin County.  Click here.

Colorado's GOP has faced many surprises over the past decade.  Not the least of which was watching a mass exodus leave rank and file by burning their red card and signing up as an unaffiliated/Independent voter.

The end result is not a jump ship on conservative principles.  Far from it.  Unaffiliated conservatives in Colorado are a very powerful group of folks and they are active in support of their politics.  The end result is that GOP functions are not attended well.  GOP messages are read but set aside.  The inherent snobbery of some in the party seem to feel that is 'no loss'.  After all, they know we are most likely to vote conservative in the end.

They're wrong.

It is a catastrophic loss to conservatism in Colorado.  We are divided for no viable reason other than a GOP that is obsessed with power, money and control.

Too bad all caucus turnouts will be better than in recent memory yet falling far short of what they could be.

SandBox Comments: Aspen Daily News/Chad Abraham "Father’s letter leads to major local drug bust"

This post is going to be hard for'SandBox Nanny'.  Her followers will likely feel similar.

If you have followed us for the past two years, then you know how loyal all of us are to our everyday heroes in law enforcement and related fields.

You also know, or have guessed and put 2+2 together, that 'Nanny' has good reason to do the opposite and just cause to turn her back rather than support.

Instead, she has often posted her belief that there is never, ever a reason that is worthy of suing any law enforcement agency or officer.  She does not personally believe in it.  She also has oft posted her personal support for law enforcement and military service.

All that loyalty and daily strokes for service men and women, who rarely hear a 'thank you', does not mean that when they are deserving of criticism that it should not be given.

Thank you goes out today.

Not to our law enforcement.  But to 'Anonymous'.

Our local and regional law enforcement is not deserving of thanks in this bust.

In fact, they are not deserving of thanks for any bust or any insight they have gleaned from commentary or other 'anonymous' media that has resulted  in a bust or help to an investigation.

Why?

Because all those cops and agencies have the majority of the citizens they swore to serve and protect still out here living in the shadows and afraid to speak up.

Folks who are the cause and effect reality of there 'not being a cop in sight' who has the outward courage to stand up to the 'social gang-banging' and 'bullying'  done to them if they do speak and show themselves.  And to 'SandBox Nanny', that is a failure of duty that is not deserving of praise or enabling.

Chad Abraham:
"The investigation that led to one of Aspen’s largest narcotic busts in recent memory began when a local father wrote an anonymous letter to police saying the defendant in the case sold drugs to his teenage daughter....

.....“I am an anonymous concerned father who is writing to warn you of a drug dealer living in Aspen,” the letter says. “After a thorough investigation I have found out the following about the drug dealer.”

The letter writer then names Simmons, and provides his Park Circle address and his phone number. The writer even lists the substance that Simmons allegedly used to “cut” the drugs to make them more profitable.

Simmons was connected to another drug defendant, Max Puder, 18, of Aspen, through Puder’s cell phone, the warrant says. Puder was arrested for allegedly selling ecstasy Dec. 16 outside the Belly Up, and the charges against him will be...."  (Read more?  Click title)

SandBox Comments: Glenwood Springs Post Independent "Ride the Rockies to take a break in Carbondale"

Congratulations to Carbondale!  This is huge!  SandBox's congrats is sincere. This is a great fit for BoneDale and the revenue boost will be welcome.

So, is the translation of this:  "Glenwood Springs tourism marketing has lost still yet another regular and major source of event revenue?"  If so, why is Glenwood Springs being passed by on this event that used to be ours?

John Colson:
"CARBONDALE, Colorado — Ride the Rockies will stop in Carbondale this summer for the first time in the 27-year history of the event, according to town recreation director Jeff Jackal.

The Carbondale overnight will be Monday, June 11, following a 68-mile push over McClure Pass, as 2,000 bicyclists make their way from Hotchkiss and pull into the grounds of Roaring Fork High School.

If Jackal's plans work out, the night will be one to remember before the cyclists start for Independence Pass and Leadville on June 12.

“It's good that it's a low-mileage day,” Jackal said of the leg of the tour from Hotchkiss to Carbondale.

“That means they'll be getting in here early and spending more money,” he predicted.

Jackal said the tour's managers estimate that at every stop, of which there are six after the June 10 start in Gunnison, the tour drops as much as $250,000 in revenue on local businesses..."

SandBox Comments: Aspen Times "Aspen council advances plan for Annie's, Benton buildings"

With all the past attacking, by local press, of individuals daring to push the envelope socially in the Roaring Fork Valley; one has to acknowledge the noticeable change that has recently been showing up in 'tone change' of local reporting.

To quote the Aspen Daily, ZG and of course, Buffalo Springfield:  "....there's something happening here...what it is ain't exactly clear...."

Yes, we really and truly are 'sick of Mick'. And there is more than one individual that feels that way.

As you conservatives cast your vote this year; 'Remember Dan Maes'.  And try not to forget the Colorado conservative sector's version of Aspen Mayor Mick Ireland.   'Tom Tancredo, the Human Tank'.

Andre Salvail:
"....Approval of an ordinance on first reading is not necessarily an indication that the council will support the ordinance when it comes up for final adoption. Typically, a proposal gets unanimous support at first reading as a simple courtesy to the applicant and to take the discussion to the next level.

But Mayor Mick Ireland, who expressed many concerns Monday about aspects of the process that has gotten the project to its current point, cast a vote against introducing the ordinance anyway...."

SandBox Comments: @USMCZen "Photography, and driving a truck..what a life"

Meet U.S. Marine Kevin McIntyre.

The first thing 'SandBox Nanny' wants to do this morning is thank Kevin for his service.  You and all our military and everyday law enforcement are so appreciated.  Thank you.

Next up on her agenda this morning is to reach out to Kevin Mac and give him a boost with his new venture.  Which is, letting others take a look at him through their own lens.  Kevin Mac has a very zen view of the world, if these stunning photos he has taken are any indication of what the man is inside.  From his Twitter profile (which is how we found him (or) he found us in mutual following) he looks like one of our American heroes out there burning up the road in a truck to keep every body's day-to-day lives rolling smooth.

To look at him through his photos (sample can be seen by clicking title) 'SandBox Nanny' concludes that '@usmczen' is an enigma.

All credit, all copyright is given to Kevin McIntyre who, for now until he hopefully gets further along on his website, can be found for photo purchasing @usmczen
