SandBoxBlogs: Glenwood Springs Post Independent "Linman to face Martin for Garfield commissioner seat"

Sonja Linman...is the most absolutely perfect candidate to go up against John Martin.

Sonja is perfect for the job, she is an amazing person of keen perception, high intelligence and the epitome of good 'ol fashioned common sense.  When you know Sonja, it is tough to find words to cover how terrific she is.  Excellent choice, GarCo Dem's.

'SandBox Nanny' could not be more thrilled (and stunned) that she is diving in to local politics.  Garfield County is very, very fortunate to have such a candidate step up.

Say YES to Sonja Linman for Garfield County Commissioner.

Holy blindside, Bat Girl!

There goes one Republican seat on BOCC. I'm in a state of shock that GarCo democrats would pick so well.

Sonja is so perfect for this job there is just no way I can support John again. The past 2 years since mid-terms have held far too much chest thumping, bind eyes for nearly 3 years and I'm disgusted.

Just say YES to Linman for GarCo BOCC. What a surprise.

gws44 said...

That would be 'blind' eyes. I wish there was a spell check feature on the blog, Nanny.

Can you believe this? Amazing.

This is like bringing in their own megawatt sunshine into BOCC chambers.

Literally.

The difference between Sonja Linman and Tresi Houpt (same order) is like the difference between Tom Silverman and Martin Beeson. Tresi could never get it through her head that it was not about her and her agenda. It's about the job. Sonja may be a liberal but it's her personality, character and smarts that will do a superior job to anybody we've had sitting on BOCC.

As much of a cold sweat that I'm breaking out into saying it and my conservative core is rattling I've got to say to Garco lib's.

Well done. I will fight to keep Samson. But it's time for John to go. He's been in the lead for the past 3 years when we've had no leader. Needs to end in this campaign. Samson should fill the shoes, not Jankovsky.

Say Yes to Linman.

It is bittersweet.

But, to put it bluntly:

Maybe the shocks and controversial picks this race season are exactly the wakeup call that Garfield, Eagle, Pitkin and state GOP need.

Tough, as a conservative, to be leaning anything toward liberal at this time.

But Sonya. It's her that makes it, not her politics.

I will fight hard to keep Samson, I think he will actually do better without the strength of formerly Tresi shadowing him over and currently John Martin. Will be interesting to see if Jankovsky can adapt.

Overall, there is one area I think Linman will be active in and that is increasing the size of BOCC. We need at least (5) seats, if not (7).

I think Sonja will be Sonja. And that means fair, balanced and perceptive. Great choice for Garco.

Yea, well. I'm not on board yet. Good news is that she's one of a kind and they can't pull anything even close out of the local left to hit other spots. Unbelievable how tunnel visioned in garco gop is. You'd think after the 2010 and 2008 debacles they'd have a come to Jesus.
Anybody of any party steps up against Beeson they're a shoe-in. Linman makes it into commissioner seat and right there we're teetering on the brink. Darn good thing Lou's in.

WingMan said...

Had to take a couple hours and recover. So overcome as one of the few lifelong liberals forced to hang out with this hub, to have my own party hand me the angel gift of Sonya Linman. Was all just too much.

This is leadership. Pure and simple leadership. That is what Sonya brings. Martin will topple to this because it's not about performance which is something that he's done well. I tried for years to get behind Tresi and could never get there. With everything the county has faced and that just keeps coming at us, we've needed leadership that doesn't see the job, the power, the personal agendas and the money floating around out there. Career politicians need not apply is a phrase Tresi and John don't understand the meaning of. Sonja will bring the heart of the county.

That she's a liberal to boot is just pure manna. hikerchuck, scarcity, roddi_58, ablazin, anonymous's 1 through 84? You hearing?

A man's entitled to at least one win in his life.

Concur Sonja has more than just a shot. But not there yet until I get some time to figure out what's really going on here. Garfield democrats are not this smart. They must have some new blood infusion and that bears looking in. Obviously, bigdaddy Silverman is out there pumping up the party, the man has a vested interest in Beeson and is a worthy opponent. But there's got to be more.

The clincher to that hunch is only conservatives have beautiful political women. Not democrats. No, I'm not sure Sonja is a real hardline dem. For sure, they're ratcheting up and putting leverage in a couple of key spots.

WingMan said...

So the theory then is that something has to be wrong at the Circle K because the Garco dem's have one beautiful political woman to step up?

I've been a red card carrying Republican in Garfield county for more years than I care to remember.

Garfield GOP over the past 15 years is a disgrace. A complete disgrace. Every single time good conservatives out here turn around, you're either endorsing a non-performing product, slapping backs and beating chests like you're a locker room or losing races because you think just because you exist as a good old boys and girls club you're infallible. You do not have swelling ranks and barely have a proportionate amount of new-ups incoming than any other party in the county. You're losing some of the longest standing, street smart fighting scrappers over the past 4 years that you've got. These people bring it and you don't give a good damn that you've lost them and are losing more of them every day. There are so many split off discontents in Garfield and state GOP you can't even hold a caucus and see new faces.

Here's a big boost tip, John. You have to perform for all of the county. This candidate incoming is going to kick your tail all the way across the county line and you have nobody but yourself and your party to blame. Here's a big reality dose to the county party. When you put a candidate in office you're responsible for their performance. The Grand Party doesn't just stump, throw money in and sit back. That dog don't hunt. Martin is not only a non-performer for the whole job, he's been one for his entire 2nd term and disgraced the bar and courts with his personal manifesto plastered all over the media. Every single fighting word he speaks up against Caloia is going to be ground back into him at every turn because he has no leg to stand on. The bloody massacre of Truden would have longevity only if he had been a choir boy since swearing in. You've done nothing to ease the concerns of the county that dozens have spoke up about for his entire time in office. But still endorse without looking for another that's better suited. Your failings at leaving Lou Vallario high and dry are unsurpassed. Twice you haven't brought his win in. The people have. Scott and Dan Maes. Just dropping the names is enough.

This red card carrying Garco resident has never been as disgusted with politics as he is now over my own local party. Sitting back and watching you lose a BOCC seat and a DA seat, after losing the Governor's mansion and making disgraces out of yourselves everywhere else is one of the least prideful moments of my adult life.

Should I burn it? Head to no mans land with the mass exodus?

Can you hear me now?

FCE said...

Chickens have definitely come home to roost for Garco GOP with Linman. And for the extreme left in this county.

Anybody who knows Sonja knows she will walk compromise. If there is any sanctimonious chest beating on the liberal left, thinking there will be an end to fracking, no more wells, land grabs for all and a socialist county on the horizon; they need to think again. Sonja is exactly what this county needs because she is a person who's capable of not just hearing both sides but acting in leadership for both sides. She's nobody to trifle with and John Martin isn't going to be able to tout experience or record. People have been the voters of "no party" as a majority along about the time the Tea Party and Palin came around. Establishment blue or red isn't a factor in their thinking anymore and no amount of money or power is going to push Linman out. Unfortunately, Caloia either because Martin Beeson's problem isn't just Martin. His problem is his entire record and no room in a DA for being a zealot. Defense attorneys throughout the 9th will defend, they've been making that clear for his whole last term. They'll take him out in flames on the illegal run his is and do it with the courts. Fast, smart and done. Right now, if Garco GOP was smart, they'd throw up an alternate republican to battle Caloia so someone's in place when that happens. Reading Sherry's article in the Daily today, I get the feeling she doesn't really want the race but is stepping up to deal with the technicality problems. Conservatives would be very wise, especially Beeson to pay attention to how successful she was doing that very same thing against Colleen. Martin Beeson needs to go same as Colleen Truden needed to go.

I want what's best for my county. Which is why I burned my card symbolic in 2010 but stayed on the rolls as a republican. Garfield GOP is looking only at what the registered numbers are saying and not realizing that the reason they're losing everywhere and there's so much discontent is because conservatives aren't voting republican. The answer to your last question anonymous is no. They can't hear you.

I told you I was getting depressed nanny. sonja linman is the garfield left's lou vallario. people love her. this is a disaster.

SandBoxBlogs said...

Yes, 'staple'. They do love her. Interestingly enough, the parallel you make to how the folks feel about Sheriff Lou...well. It's really accurate.

Consider this a mass reply to the plethora of wide-ranging emotional emails in Nanny's mailbox since Sonja announced with a back-to-back political hit from Sherry Caloia.

No, there will be no "Comment Spotlight" awards given to the many deserving on these recent posts. There is enough buzz spinning around the county and district over it all already. There is a long, long campaign season ahead. Let's just let things run their course, OK?

No, there is no "secret news" that 'SandBox Nanny' is aware of regarding a "giant conspiracy to overthrow the right in Garfield County".

Yes, if and when 'breaking news' comes in on any of these hot topics, I will most certainly post them up for you as fast as I can.

(lol...things haven't been this exciting politically since Nancy Pelosi talked Ali Hasan into becoming a democrat....)

Repeat:

The tragedy, comedy and irony of you guys on this hub is that you're conservatives.

Hear the news and weep.

FCE and FCL said...

Nanny, we're giving Sonja a hand.

Just like Lou against Tommy boy.

The first top five of our list of suggested campaign propaganda:

"Even conservatives love her. Vote Linman."

"GarCo bottom-feeders unite against Martin. Say YES to Sonja."

"Aggravate the establishment. Vote Sonya Linman."

"Burn your red card today! YES on Linman."

"Save a gas rig, opt for fair representation! Vote Sonja Linman (D-Garfield County)."

SandBoxBlogs said...

I especially like #5.

zgnative said...

I cast for #3. I'm looking forward to hearing from this young woman, Ms. Linman. Knowing the ladies here who are cheering for her race, they are not ones to cast lightly. She sounds very special.

WingMan said...

"Beautify Garfield County. Vote for Sonja Linman."

babe and I've never been on opposing ends of the political spectrum.

my household's in turmoil.

and it's sonja linman's fault. go figure that for the first time in the history of garco dem's they'd pick a winner.

running with staple on this.

it's got all the makings of a disaster.

blindtuu said...

She's always been smarter than you.

I don't know. John does a good job. He's just not connected anymore. When he ran the first two terms around he had this same kind of connection that Linman looks like she's got. Somewhere along mid-way of the third one he shifted and lost that. He hasn't grabbed it back. Now since midterms 2010 even the job focus has shifted. Can't tell if John or Jankovsky's in charge. I'll decide after I see what she has to say. Right now though. I'd say he has some things to worry about.

MR said...

I'll take campaign slogan #5 and I'll also cast for Linman.

It has boggled the mind since Tresi's 2010 lame duck year and the year and a half since watching to see what they would actually do with unilateral political power, that bocc has put the oil and gas economy more in jeopardy by using the ham-handed approach. I'm reminded of Scott's temporary insanity when he swatted aside every human voice after the plagerism scandal.

I vote on the side of my county and my county needs the oil and gas industry. Having known Sonja for many years I know she will listen to my conservative views and the end result will be middle ground, not a siege or coup.

Time for John Martin to go. I'd like to see the two conservative balance in Samson and Jankovsky stay because of the far bias of all the media in the area. They would be wise to take a page from the dynamic going on here with happy conservatives rebel yelling loud for a couple of liberals to take power seats in the county and district. How many more days until Weatherred is gone? Doing any housecleaning with reporters that should have gone a long, long time ago? Biased and censored power that acts to just suppress the information only makes a rumbling volcano.

"Save a gas rig. Opt for fair representation. Vote Sonya Linman (D-Garfield County)"

Who's Sonja Linman? Don't remember her and can't believe what I'm reading here. My own family going to the dark side. Beeson I can see. But John?

hot mama said...

You've probably had a lot of phone time with family figuring it out and that won't appear in this comment thread.

Here's our answer:

She's a gift. Time for John to go.

jbend said...

What's with the Sonja's?

First Hemmen and now Linman.

I'm running with staple, it's a disaster. hammer isn't even interested in fighting it because FCE's pouring on the female charms at home. We have no power we have no control.

John Martin's just listening to Jankovsky too much and asking pretty much like a klutz with the folks. He'll snap out of it.

Does Beeson offend the public with his comments about defense counsel? Does he sound arrogant to you? What about those Aspen Da's? Do they offend?

sumfu said...

I don't care how offensive his way of talking is to the public he wants votes from. I'm voting a Da not a popularity contest. I care about what a waste of everything it is that it's always about Martin Beeson and he never gets round to answering the questions without either excuses or a story. I care less about him as a person. He's running for a job, anon. And that job so far hasn't been getting done the way he thinks or says it is. as far as the Aspen DA's all of them are Martin Beeson. buck stops at the top. he's got the worst performance record in a Da we've ever had and the worst of it is aspen and garfield. details, anon. details. how many motions lost in cases tried, how many 90% circumstantial or jumped to conclusion, how much per trial on the bigger cases he's spent, why we have sanctions and disciplines, why there's his personal morals all over his website that's got our district on it too and why he's waging war against the rules and rights on one hand and then when it suits the politics saying just the opposite that he cares about getting it right. also got a real problem with a 3rd term. but personally find him offensive? just plain don't care, I vote for a DA not a popularity contest. I won't be voting for Martin Beeson. I do know quite a few who also know him (I do) and say similar. he's maybe a nice enough guy to socialize with but his arrogance and moral double speak makes him undesirable as a leader.

WingMan said...

Beeson speaks often of his belief that everybody's after him with negative press because he's tough on crime and doesn't back down. Problem is he has so many misses that shouldn't be charged or headed to court there isn't really anything to back down from. He denies that loud and rude to our judges and in his press coverage manifestos but just can't bring himself to back his words up with proof and facts. A lot like those cases that he misses the mark on. Being a district attorney isn't a springboard to career politics. Especially if you're incompetent or bully your way forward with false words. Is that offensive to people? I would have to say no. It's revealing.

Aspen is 9th judicial, anonymous. So is Rio Blanco. On this race it's all over for Beeson is the way I look at it. 3rd term bullying his way in is bothering a lot of people. he can't disclose all the facts because that reveals the truth other attorneys say about him, backs up what judges are ruling against him on and is damning.

The fact that he'd rather be in Washington is obvious, the fact that few care and Tipton is who we support is obvious too. We just don't need this in the 9th. We've got serious violent crime infiltrating, we're low and lower on funding and we need a leader in the job.

Caloia has my vote. Grateful to her that she stepped up so that my time isn't wasted having to fight getting Beeson off because of term violations or listen to his doing everything but bringing out every fact where money and statistics folks want to know are.

chirkers said...

anybody who isn't offended by what this district goes through under beeson should be looked at with suspicion. tom silverman said something in the daily awhile back about never letting yourself think that what beeson does and how he runs cases and his offices can't happen to you. I'm running with just about everybody I know on the subject of martin beeson. our cops work too hard and our folks are worth looking after.we've got gangs drug cartels and major dope and violence in our own back and front yards. child sex trafficking in glenwood springs hotels. but the only thing we hear out of martin beeson is really unbelievable misconduct. like in the daily today

http://www.aspendailynews.com/section/home/153038
http://www.aspendailynews.com/section/home/153036

why isn't this stuff covered right in the times and pi and garco gop? john martin's loosing my vote and I'm going to linman because of one reason that beeson has happened on his watch with more to come. my answer would be yes. I'm offended.

Anonymous said...

The whole district should be offended. All three BOCC's should be demanding answers. If just because of the one problem, outside of dozens of problems making national news and blogs, in "The Truth Hurts" coming out of the leader of all our law enforcement. Somebody who believes that and feels that way has no business practicing criminal law. Caloia and Linman have this Republican's vote.

zgnative said...

Increasingly concerned rather than offended.

We have so many needs in our law enforcement that are growing stronger by the day.

It is apparent to me that DA Beeson is a waste of both resources and time. I will be voting Caloia.

karainlongmont said...

You know these sanctions and problems that are all Beeson are being talked about clear over here on the front range? Back home in New Castle my parents say they feel like we're a laughing stock, that they can't look online without finding lawyers as far away as NY with blogs that carry Beeson's manifestos. You're right, anonymous. Nowhere in the history of Garfield county has our DA ever disgraced the bench and cases as much as this one has. Lord, I hope they take him out in court over the three terms thing and stop this madness without a dirty politics race which he's sure to run just like he did to Colleen Truden.
