Much better is what I say.
Still question why public funds are paying for fireworks. We shouldn't be taking that out of tourism bucks unless tourism marketing finally does something really worthwhile to get people into town for the 4th. So far we've had no production out of the 4th. Get it to where it can sustain itself so that next year the fireworks funds are sitting there from money the 4th celebration earned. If that doesn't happen then privatize the fireworks permanently or make it a city cost like other towns do. Get it away from the tourism fund.
Really like the money for the updates to the website and public relations improvement. Hope that means they're hiring a voice for the city so that private organizations and our local paper aren't billed as our voices.
The Muni Center has to be fixed. But it's like public education funding. We're about to spend another 1.4 mil to fix a building that sits on the worst soil in the area. Another 6-8 yrs and we're going to be spending another 1.4 mil to fix it again. When you have a money pit that can't ever stop sticking its hand out you sooner or later have to fill the pit and call it good.
Why isn't the City of Glenwood Springs looking at a permanent fix for the Muni Center? That fix would cost more than 1.4 mil. But eventually save us multiple millions. Get the thing engineered right, get some caissons in the ground and stabilize it.
Otherwise, save the 1.4 mil no, let the thing reach the state of being condemned then tear it down. Next time build it right.
There's one thing I really like about this article, Nanny. And that's the way it's reported. I can't remember ever getting a report out of Stroud and the PI that's got details and no spin.
Yea, well except for the dig on the sub heading on fireworks. Decided to accommodate and put a comment up to give some cred to your efforts. just sayin.
The council, city administration and county officials are living in a dream world if they think we're going to be able to hold our head above water in 2012 and be able to pay for anything.
All this suppression of tourism's dirty little secret in one person opening us up to major liability and scandal has served well for about 3 years.
But the law is the law. And eventually the other side always gets heard. Said it before.
Nobody I know remembers getting asked to be hog-tied to decision making that would allow something so ugly as what that story is.

I say don't spend one unnecessary dime.
