Oh, dear.

(sighs....rolls eyes....could be a long day with the 'kids' today....)

Again:

"Now that DA Beeson has thrown his hat in the ring for district attorney in the 9th, please take note that there will be no special treatment given to any news press surrounding his race. His articles, if they are SandBox worthy or chosen in the daily agg run-up; will be put up just like anyone else in a political race. What SandBox Commentators will continue to do, is heavily moderate his articles. We are the only news media that provides the courtesy of moderating commentary from the general public on 9th Judicial District and Mr. Beeson's articles.)

Don't get too upset with Jay. Chances are he was so upset he went out to toke a little courage. Probably was influence by Cleverly on this letter and hadn't slept it off yet.

Wonder how many gun-toting cops we have running up and down the highways. There's a thought.

Sounds like a lynch mob headed for Pedersen. Good thing we have our trusty DA holding back the mobs that are attacking through the press.

Gotta be a huge upset thinking that life as the old school knows it just might change. I say cut Jay some slack on this letter he's pretty obvious how upset he is. You know how those painters get thinking supplies are cut off for good.

roddi, mack:

If it wasn't relevant to his politics, your comments on DA Beeson for this post wouldn't be allowed up.

It's a shame that the problems of former Officer Pedersen are in the hands of the district attorney's office and it is a travesty that Jay has decided to include Pedersen's legal issues in his rant in todays newspapers.

Stay within the lines, please. And btw, that includes Jay's painter friends as well.

Sorry, nanny. I should have specified fake painters. And mack's probably wrong about the Woody Creek stop. Ol' Jay was probably upset enough hearing the feds were in town that he went down to Basalt, took in a pound or two and then headed down to sit back in the medicinal smoke with the old Ship of Fools crowd at the Pour House. It's painful to think about old times going away when your knees are shot and your back aches. Rough to get old, that's for sure.

sounds like he's on one of his vile plutocrat rants.

Outside of all those respectable publications he lists in his resume, you mean. That slippery slope is the real Jay Cowan.

All that hypocrisy never ceases to amaze. You'd think he'd be glad for a good housecleaning.

I especially like:

"This is one of the reasons we all love small communities and should do everything we can to support what makes them special."

Speaks volumes when you look a little deeper than the public face somebody's trying to put on.

Yes, sir. We are the company we keep and the paths we have walked. That people like this really believe their entire path isn't going to be seen and heard when they persecute another also speaks volumes.

Good luck to the Feds. This time stick around long enough to dig deep enough. Don't look at just the surface or what you're being told by what looks like respectable, vetted people. Just keep following the dimes and the whispers. Things are not what they appear on the surface to be and objects in your rearview mirror may be closer than you think.

roddi, you blue dog.

If guys like Jay weren't so sad stuck in the past like they are, his letter to the editor the thought that they really think someone is going to listen to this kind of a rant anymore would be pathetic.

Sounds like Chitty was treated to the same treatment any prisoner being extradited gets. They outside contract transport. It's not a federal specific operation. Hysteria doesn't look good on you, Jay. You should lose it.

**Name correction for Paul Pedersen done on 4/9/2012. Thank you, lass.

For nearly 35 years I have worked my way up as an investigative journalist on the east coast. When I need fresh air I return to friends and family in Colorado.

No, Monty Chitty was busted because Monty Chitty has been into a variety of drugs for both use and profit for most of his adult life. Quite the opposite of

Mr. Cowan and his: "Well, these are the agencies that have been employing allegedly drunk-driving, illegal-gun-toting undercover informants with axes to grind in this valley. And nationwide they’ve been practicing an extremely ugly version of rendition on selected prisoners for more than 25 years. It’s called “diesel therapy.” They do it to people who have only been charged and remain unconvicted of anything. In the meantime they are bused (hence the diesel) from one dangerous jail to another for weeks on end to keep them nervous and abused and to prevent lawyers from being able to reach them while they are constantly pressured to provide evidence against others the DEA and FBI want to prosecute. This is what they did to Monty Chitty, for example."

Seeing the need for a little clarity on why someone living in Snowmass has such a diverse view from reality, I checked in with a few friends to gather some facts.

Turns out Mr. Cowan is a diverse individual. Handles himself as writer, journalist, painter, ski instructor amongst other odd job career choices. Appears to have a wide range of friends and viewpoints as well.

I have many observations and views regarding the presence of the DEA in the valley and the alleged presence of the FBI joining them. All quite the opposite from Mr. Cowan and his views.

The observation I'm going to narrow down to in this first comment on the issue pertains to prosecutors. You see, as an advocate for a successful mission in Aspen, I feel there is a silent partner in all this that we should all be grateful is on board. Federal prosecutors rather than local prosecutors.

If local prosecutors were handling DEA and FBI activity we would likely be seeing that 'allegedly drunk-driving, illegal-gun-toting undercover informant with an ax to grind' named Pedersen hung in the court of public opinion with Jay Cowan cheering in the salivating crowds.

Obviously one area all of you can be glad for is that this long needed investigation by the DEA in Aspen is prosecuted by federal prosecutors in order to save citizens of the valley from such a display.

This view from afar has wondered for some time now how it is possible such an affluent demographic has such long standing power abuse and corruption in at least two of its most powerful elected seats of government. If the answer does not lie somewhere in your elected prosecutors and law enforcement; possibilities just may lie (pun intended) within how that prosecutor and Pitkin County law enforcement abuse their power.

Then again the court of public opinion that Jay Cowan and those he defends so obviously reveres is one way to get a case tried:

(Today--Aspen Daily) "Beeson said it is the policy of the 9th Judicial District “to not release anything to the public” about pending cases. “We don’t want witnesses to be tainted by anything they might read in the newspapers,” he said. “More importantly, with potential jurors our release of factual, evidentiary things about cases always runs the risk that an accused will not get his constitutional right to a fair trail.”

Here's to Monty Chitty reaping what he has sowed for so many years. With a toss back of the glass to Jay Cowan of Old Snowmass for his inadvertent reminder that the good guys and real white hats still do exist.
