SandBox Comments: Aspen Daily News "Public funds sweeten Whistler’s X Games bid"

Talk about grounds for a major uprising.  An 'Aspen Spring'.

If it turns out that we lose X Games because Paula and Jim Crown were too tight to part with some of that 'earned' cash that has accumulated for years by not paying the kids a living wage; the folks are not going to be happy.

Especially after watching all the shuck and jive from Aspen Skico execs over X Games possible exit and listening to the Skico demands for more money pitched in from the community.  After calling us all a 'bunch of bitching locals'.

We already lost out to Vail once this season.  To lose again to Whistler??!!@#^!

lmao. The entire county is not sure what we used to do before SandBox Nanny brought us an anonymous outlet.

That's the skico.

Short sighted as ever on all things that make the community as prosperous as they are.

Nothing but long range vision when it comes to padding that bottom line.

The only reason the skico is going to be upset if we lose X Games is because they know they're going to have he** to pay from the people.

Here's a thought.

Put a price tag on all four mountains and the skico and sell us to Vail Resorts. Make billions, Paula and Jim.

And retire. Nobody would mind.

Not a bad idea at all Jake. Word around for years that they've got nobody who wants to inherit it. They don't want it. All the Kaplans of the world will move on to same salary and percs somewhere else. Or not. The Crown family never thought they would see themselves fall from social grace. That's a powerful motivator to spend all these decades living the Aspen style. It should be just as powerful of a motivator now that they're in free fall. It's not just Mulcahy, he's a small cog in that fall. All he did was snowball the avalanche. These are new political times, new economic times and there is no more Aspen social hierarchy. Except in their dreams. To sell the Skico now before they have no hope of getting a tandem line snapped on during free fall is a business choice that surely Jim Crown would understand. He can name his price now. Another couple years and it may not be a fire sale but it won't be solely on his terms.
