SandBoxBlogs: Aspen Times "U.S. attorney: No pot shop safe from federal enforcement"

Will 2012 bring the final outcome?

Is this the year that the medical marijuana industry finally gets a straight answer on the question of whether to stay open or close the doors?  Finally get a break from lawyer fees and being hassled in the business community on all kinds of levels?  Be able to go to work without being afraid the cops are on their way?

Colorado US Attorney John Walsh says that it is.

Rema Rahman:
"DENVER — The U.S. attorney in Colorado says there is no such thing as "safe harbor" for pot shops.

U.S. Attorney John Walsh sent a letter Friday to a lawyer representing medical marijuana dispensaries, saying safe harbor doesn't exist for such shops because marijuana remains illegal under federal law. It was the latest in an exchange of letters between Walsh and lawyer Robert Corry regarding the location of dispensaries and how far they need to be from schools.

Walsh said in the new letter that it is at his office's discretion to take enforcement action against any and all medicinal marijuana dispensaries...."  (Read more? Click title)

SandBox gets a lot of pot mail.

You know. To that other mailbox secure server located in a hidden volcanic lair somewhere northwest of DeBeque that is so far from being a secret anymore it's ridiculous.

Very interesting mail reaction from the area avatar community since posting this one earlier this morning.

And that is what always tugs at 'SandBox Nanny's' heart. It's bad enough that these people have sunk every dime they had into MMJ businesses. But to live now in fear while at the same time being at the mercy of lawyers charging for representing them (I have no idea if the lawyer in this article is charging for his time. Please don't bombard the box with hate mail, I'm not specifically referring to this one mentioned)is really tough to listen to.

I'm reminded of that mega-dump of very expensive MMJ growing equipment out on public lands last year. It's understandable that good people might be driven out of fear of the feds coming knocking, to do such a thing.

Well, they can't say they were not warned.

You just think it's still located somewhere northwest of DeBeque.

then again my dear friend. You do have a tendency to think you know most everything.

Tough though to find as good of a lair as that one was. not wise to ever underestimate your true friends. We managed.

there's nothing worse than being forced by your boss to be doing take-offs in the office on a sunny Sunday with fresh powder on the hill. thanks for the distraction, nanny. he can't gripe at 44 and I if he's doing it too.

it is a shame but they are warned and the feds didn't have to. this whole medical pot problem still comes back to CO lawmakers and every single city and town and county elected official who let these people get set up. here in Glenwood Springs how much money have we wasted on human resources and public resources at taxpayer expense just so McKinney can have a soap box at council? how hard would it have been to really sit back and just wait to see what happened with the feds? not hard at all. innocent citizens wouldn't have set themselves up with no hope to make it, people who need the prescription relief of mmj wouldn't be on an emotional and physical roller coaster and the taxpayers would have saved a lot of bucks.

walsh and dea would be doing everybody a favor if they would just do a statewide sweep and get it over with.
