SandBox Comments: Glenwood Springs Post Independent/Community Briefs "Food vendor and exhibitor applications available for 115th annual Strawberry Days "

Unfortunately, not a thing has been done about Strawberry Days issues by our city administration or city council.

Given this week's climate in our forum of open commentary; 'SandBox Nanny' opts for simply tossing up the PI's reporting of some details for the 115th  Strawberry Days celebration and reminding the 'kids' they are moderated:

via Glenwood Springs Post Independent:
"The Glenwood Springs Chamber Resort Association invites interested food vendors and exhibitors to apply for the 115th annual Strawberry Days to be held June 15, 16 and 17. Applications are available at strawberrydaysfestival.com or by calling the chamber at (970) 945-6589. The deadline to apply is April 15.

The theme for the 2012 event is Glenwood Springs — “America's Most Fun Town.” This year's festival features a FamilyFest area with interactive, entertaining and creative experiences for the kids; an arts and crafts fair and food court, an old-fashioned carnival; a parade down Grand Avenue and a full entertainment lineup.

For more information, call the Glenwood Springs Chamber Resort Association at (970) 945-6589 or visit strawberrydaysfestival.com...." (Read original announcement? Click title)

"Unapologetically pursuing and tracking patterns within the news others make since 2010."

Pretty much a given that CIRC and every banger and illegal in the area is going to be protesting strawberry days until they get what they want or all get hauled in. We'll never have any peace again at that event thanks to CIRC and AJUA.

So riddle me these:

Strawberry days is a civic event and that means its city turf. But the lead chamberette nixed that years ago and racks in all that green cash and little cups of water bottle coins into the chamber's hands. Nobody knows how that happened and no contract seems to exist. Come to think, nobody knows where all the years of all that cash went. But last year when the massacre hit the carnival, the county and cops got stuck with footing the legal bills, extra manpower and so forth. Who gets to pay from that year forward? Can Lou pull an Arapahoe county Sheriff Grayson and bill $25K plus to the city of Glenwood Springs? Arapahoe just did that to the Mittens prez campaign. Will the city pay whatever Lou bills them in costs to keep the peace and enforce the law? Even if the chamberettes and that stellar board of theirs is still not accounting for the contract or the cash?

Riddle #2:

Either way, it's the folks who are getting socked with all the extra costs. Where are we going to make up that money? From these tourism lions that are putting rafts in the water and taking carnival rides away from the event itself? Since that hasn't worked for a few decades to show the folks a profit at all when compared to all it costs us, where are we going to get the money to cover the damage from the bangers, the dopers, the illegals, CIRC, AJUA and our own "stay safe in Eagle" mayor and city council?

Riddle #3:

What is wrong with this picture?

The issue of strawberry days being put under city controls is a no-brainer. Which is probably why it's not getting done. Sad, but true. Maybe Gamba and Leahy will step up this year and finally get that event whipped into some kind of business shape. Figure out who owns it, get a contract together, account for the money and that way Lou has a place to bill security needs.

CIRC will for sure pull protests or at least have a presence. No doubt Fong and JustAnita and company will be there too. My call out is for ICE, TAG, DEA, Garco Sheriff and Glenwood PD to make the event be known up front and before it happens that there won't be any tolerance of any kind. That way, Ted Hess can't stage a protest in a lawsuit and there are no excuses. It's called "doing an Arpaio" and advertising the dates, times and locations that cops are going to be out in full force. Set up a specific area in town, away from Sayre Park and the carnival for CIRC, AJUA and the ACLU to have their stump.

Then do it.

Glenwood Springs and Strawberry Days just might get lucky and see a return of the community who've dodged it for a lot of years now because it's infiltrated with illegals, bangers and dopers.

If that doesn't fly then run with jbend's idea and just bill the whole thing. I say bill the chamber board if they can't get their act together and do the ethical thing of clarifying contracts, venue and money up front. Why should the folks have to pay?

We have not drawn a Strawberry Days that matches the success of the past since 2005, 2006. There certainly hasn't been any portion of Strawberry Days in the past 6 to 7 years that has exceeded monetary goals which is the tangible purpose for the event. If we do not make money at it we may lose it.

The shadow of the chamber over the event is not one that is present because one person, three people or a group of people have claimed to be blowing a whistle on the Glenwood Springs chamber. That shadow exists because it is true that one person and her board are the singlemost divisive catalyzing energy in Glenwood Springs. Unfortunately, more negative than positive given the hands on enabling that is the silence and lack of action to clear accusations that omission always brings.

Now that we will never be the same again at Strawberry Days thanks to the radical actions of the CIRC group and a certain segment of the community that so happens to also be tied to the Glenwood Springs chamber; city council should pull the event into their hands again and protect the best interests of the community's safety.

Sheriff Vallario needs to do as all of you are fond of saying. Stay the course.

First year in ages that we've got a theme that doesn't either sound like something a pre-school age child would dream up or that we're going to be picketed for supporting foreign trade relations to a communist country like China.

And we get to look forward to a repeat of CIRC and Brendan Greene. The blogs online are already talking about it so what makes anybody think the illegals and bangers aren't? With the heavy and serious crime from those two groups joining in with dopers, traffickers and cartels right here in our area what else can we expect this year?

From the looks of the event website and chamber sites we sure can't expect eyes open and full security. But we are going to get to have a lot of fun! Lou needs to take charge of this and get all the area agencies behind him now so that there is some planning. Our cops do not deserve to be treated like they were last year and it is the event owner who needs to make sure they aren't. Maybe an upside to getting in front of it is that just like with all other things put in front of them, when the chamber board hs to pony up responsibility or part with their own money all of a sudden it reverts to someone else's fault or problem. Maybe they'll drop this thing like the hot potato it is and shed light on the fact that they hijacked this civic event a long time ago. Good luck to Sheriff Lou and all his crew this year.

It's called taking responsibility.

Somebody has to.

heard some stuff on this year's strawberry days today. talk is CIRC and AJUA credit themselves with running Agon out of town. that's what they're calling it instead of the truth. and it looks like strawberry days hits this year timed with dem's events for Obama and CIRC has plans statewide for rallies. What do you want to bet the site of the strawberry days massacre 2011 is a gathering place in 2012? sure hope Lou has his game on.
