SandBoxBlogs: Glenwood Springs Post Independent "Jankovsky elected to Colorado Ski Hall of Fame"

  'ab22' says:
"I would like to first say congratulations to Tom.  The path of Sunlight and all it has represented to him personally over the years, is a journey that I believe will someday bring him the balance he privately seeks.

It does not matter, for the purposes of the award and what it means to Tom Jankovsky, who nominated him for it.

In the end of that journey of his, the gain will still be his alone and at his hand.  No one else, no matter who they are and how they use methods to further their own desires has the power to control that.

Sunlight Ski Resort is one of our crown jewels in the Valley.  Tom Jankovsky is directly responsible for that and deserves the honor of public acclaim.

My comment moves on to the real problem that exists in this article. One that unfortunately will now do exactly what the intent behind it likely wants it to.  It will splatter out into public view through association by content and sources.

It is both sad and troubling to watch John Stroud turn acclaim for Tom Jankovsky, into a canned press release spotlighting Marianne and using Tom's acclaim to do so.  Tom Jankovsky's worth and achievements are enough to fill many pages of the Glenwood Springs Post Independent.  There can be no excuse for filling over 50% of this piece with spotlight press on another when the honoree is Tom.

One only has to look at all other award organizations and celebrations in the region and see that no one else touts the one doing the nominating.  Rarely are they mentioned by more than just name, possibly that is something known as the virtue of humility.

This is a pattern of news reporting that is blatantly transparent as being self-serving to the publication and an individual.  In this case of Jankovsky, as likely to spark similar outrage as other recent press and awards have recently done.

All human life has vulnerability.  We each find the answer within ourselves on how to deal when those vulnerabilities are preyed on by another.

Maybe this one more straw of a comment, spoken in defense of a very deserving man who had a long, long personal journey of self to get to this point in his life; will be the straw that reminds John Stroud that the focus is on the subject of the story and verified, proven, substantiated facts.

That is a standard in journalism that he and his employer have forgotten.

It doesn't matter if one has metaphysical beliefs or orthodox beliefs.  Again and as I have publicly stated once before where Tom is concerned; epiphany can come in as easily on a solitary ride, in the dark of night on a chair lift in Telluride (or) in a seemingly coincidental event in daily life.  It is what we do when forced to make a choice on the next stage that is what ultimately matters.

Congratulations to Tom and Nancy.  The honor is richly deserved."

Comment ability on this post will be closely monitored as to keeping with the spirit and tone of this post.

"Unapologetically pursuing and tracking patterns within the news others make since 2010."

It's impossible to be as gracious, ab. No can do. Too disgusted with the PI. Too disappointed in the weaknesses of Jankovsky no matter how much he deserves an award on the Sunlight side. As for the ooze of Marianne, that's just enough to make a body feel ill. It's like picking up a print copy and feeling like it's dirty somehow.

You've got the grace covered dear friend. Can't be matched.

I will try. If tossed, then I can't curb back any further.

Congratulations to Tom and Tom alone on this award. It is rich in deserving.

As for Marianne showing up in his spotlight with news of a significant date no one knew about before, let's see. What was it that Marianne was needing in the last months of 2008 and through 2009 from Tom Jankovsky?

Oh, that's right. Stopping council from their mission of aprx. a decade in getting control over the money and making sure that tourism board stayed under thumb.

And what else was there, now on public record for the world to know that she needed from Tom Jankovsky in 2009? Oh, that's right.

To look the other way.

Sure, I'll keep it about Jankovsky.

Nobody deserves a fame on the positive side award, who has repeatedly been complacent in contributing to rampant cronyism, paying his workers some of the lowest wages in valley and shamelessly riding the benefits of a tandem line he attached himself to in the marketing from public funds, just so he can call Sunlight a success.

The only thing ratcheting home my point just made, is to double down on it and be nominated by somebody like Marianne Virgili. One of the most totally self-absorbed leaders, at the expense of every person she puts in her path, that we have anywhere in Glenwood Springs.

These are two people who are among the worst representations of what true community based business is and among the best representations of how high and how deep power can abuse.

Hall of Fame? Why not. Which hall is the question.

Ok, revised as asked. If not good enough just toss it and forget about my voice.

It is a good bunch to go in with. And on the question of Sunlight, Jankovsky deserves the award.

Interesting to see the reported 2009 era date from Stroud on the nomination.

Never ceases to amaze how Marianne Virgili, in all of her public servant capacity can manage to squeeze 26 hours out of every 24 hour day.

She just manages to get it all done, doesn't she? Incredible gal.

Bet Tom was thrilled to have her once again at his door same as he was thrilled to be lavished with attention and praise back in '05 and '06 when he and Beckley got talked into letting their new tourism board stay under her tender loving care

What was Marianne doing, besides my wife sungirl's observations, in '08 while gearing up for this nomination of Tom and again through 2009 when getting the deed done and pushing him toward acclaim?

Oh, that's right.

Creative building the McMansion in Aspen Glen while driving 9+ businesses, ours among them, with at least a few dozen employees among all of them, multiple vendors and tons of collateral business damage for all of us through huge loss because of what we think is her tort interference and unjust enrichment by her and her husband. Carpenters, plumbers, a builder and a designer estimate the gain (and our loss) at well over $1.2 million.

Didn't think it was possible that Marianne could find the time to do more but she must have made the time.

Seeing her every day on the jobsite and listening to the sometime 30+ minutes of rant and schmooze covering her trail of all those extras and high over budget problems she was having while all workers around her clamored for 6 months of back pay we ended up never getting; I pretty much felt like she had enough on her plate.

Boy, was I wrong. There appears to always be time for Marianne to work that hoodoo magic people like Jankovsky love so much and get so much from.

Actually, I don't know when I've ever seen a nominator as equal to the honoree as Virgili and Jankovsky.

A decade ago, that wouldn't have been the case. If he were to take a good hard look at himself right now he would see that he is lesser in standing than this group of inductees. The Tom Jankovsky I've known for years was a far different man 10 years ago. He lived, he breathed the high ethics and sound character he is somewhere still. For the past 5 to 7 years he can't even come close to saying that. He never would have been like someone like Marianne Virgili back in the day.

Now, the past 7 yrs. or so come as no surprise. His performance and power grab as a commissioner really put the crown on it all. I can't see this as a good thing, this induction.

Unless of course. The real Tom Jankovsky shows up for the award.
