Congratulations to Rifle Fire Protection District! Glad to see that incumbents prevailed and will hold their seats.
"In polling on Tuesday, May 8, voters re-elected all three incumbents running for the three open seats on the Rifle Fire Protection District board of directors.
Here is the vote count:
1. Yvonne Long, 52
2. John Sandquist, 48
3. Rex Rhule, 39
Former board member Lee Martens, who was seeking to return to the board after being term limited off the board, collected 32 votes, so was unsuccessful in his bid.
The election brought a turnout of 69 voters, less than 1 percent of the estimated 7,400 eligible voters in the district, said Connie Guerette, the fire district's administrative division chief and designated election official.
The fire district board will hold its next regular meeting on Wednesday, May 16, when the re-elected board members will be sworn in and new officers will be elected.
