"If Texas Democrats, or even Republicans for that matter, thought they’d have a quieter, gentler Rick Perry on their hands in the wake of his . . . um . . . temporary diversion into Presidential politics, they know better today.
In a speech Monday in Houston, Perry laid out five fundamental conservative principles for the Texas Legislature to follow, essentially throwing down the gauntlet to any legislator — or wanna-be legislator — who thinks they’ll be able to bring a tax and spend mindset to the Texas Capitol building.
Perry’s “Texas Budget Compact” is pretty much bedrock conservative fare: no higher taxes, stricter limits on spending, truth-in-budgeting, cutting of wasteful programs, and maintaining a healthy “Rainy Day” reserve fund. They’re basic enough that it’s hard to imagine any candidate running for office in the reddest state in the union can ignore them without having some serious explaining to do.
Bear in mind, the Texas Legislature, which only meets every other year, doesn’t even convene until January, and primary voters don’t even go to the polls until late May. By seizing control of the narrative this early in the process, Perry has served notice that he continues to be the lead conservative voice in Texas and plans to govern that way.

SandBoxBlogs: Town Hall "And They Wonder Why Voters Are Angry"
We couldn't agree more that the 2012 Presidential election is shaping up to be a choice between the lesser of two evils.
Which is the last thing America needs right now. What we needed was true leadership.
Vote anyone but Barack Obama. At least get us that far.

"As Mitt Romney assumes the role of presumptive Republican nominee, polls suggest a competitive general election matchup between the former Massachusetts governor and President Obama. Typically, both candidates poll in the mid-40s, while 10 to 12 percent remain uncommitted to either side.
Among these uncommitted voters, Rasmussen Reports polling shows that just 22 percent approve of the way the president is handling his job. Seventy-two percent (72 percent) disapprove. As for intensity, just 2 percent strongly approve, and 40 percent strongly disapprove.
At first glance, this seems like good news for Romney. These uncommitted voters will be difficult for the president to win over. But it raises another question: If these uncommitted voters are so unhappy with the president, why aren't they already Romney supporters?
The data suggest that voters are less than thrilled with the choices they'll have in November. The lack of enthusiasm for Romney among GOP voters has been well documented. Among Democrats, enthusiasm for their candidate is noticeably down, as well. Among young voters, for example, just 20 percent strongly approve of the job the president is doing.
Most young voters, of course, will still end up voting for the president just as most disgruntled Republicans will end up voting for Romney. But neither candidate connects well with white working-class voters. Romney has struggled to win over these voters in his primary contests, and Obama lost them to Hillary Clinton in the 2008 Democratic primaries. "...The federal government has become the nation's largest creditor, debtor, lender, employer, consumer, contractor, property owner, insurer, health care provider, pension guarantor and who knows what else. We are slowly surrendering our liberty for false promises.
People are being duped with financial burdens in the form of entitlements, high government salaries, health care and educational benefits. People, through their own ignorance, take to the streets in the Occupy Movement, protest against their own self determination and vote to enchain everybody, including themselves. They will eventually become ruled by despots, such as our self-anointed president who thinks he is wiser and more learned and way beyond the capabilities of the citizens he supposedly rules.
People who are hungry and on food stamps, out of a job and collecting unemployment checks, or who just lost their home are the stuff of which despots are made.
It's easier to accept what we are told than to read and think for ourselves.
Readers are leaders. The rest are lemmings. It's their choice, but their attitude will affect their kids' and grandkids' lives.
America has become a society where people are supposedly wise enough to select their leaders but too stupid to choose the right light bulb.
The greatest obstacle to Obama's master plan is individualism. Be ready. Be educated. Be an individual...."

Conservatives are not always 'anti-taxes'. When it makes sense, when it is fiscally responsible and when the benefits exceed what's spent; they generally support an increase.
When Fort Collins passed the 'Keep Fort Collins Great' sales tax it was a bi-partisan effort.
One that looks like it is paying off. Kudos to the folks up, over and up again in Fort Collins, Colorado.

Colorado's GOP has faced many surprises over the past decade. Not the least of which was watching a mass exodus leave rank and file by burning their red card and signing up as an unaffiliated/Independent voter.
The end result is not a jump ship on conservative principles. Far from it. Unaffiliated conservatives in Colorado are a very powerful group of folks and they are active in support of their politics. The end result is that GOP functions are not attended well. GOP messages are read but set aside. The inherent snobbery of some in the party seem to feel that is 'no loss'. After all, they know we are most likely to vote conservative in the end.
They're wrong.
It is a catastrophic loss to conservatism in Colorado. We are divided for no viable reason other than a GOP that is obsessed with power, money and control.
Too bad all caucus turnouts will be better than in recent memory yet falling far short of what they could be.
