"The All Hazard Response Team (AHRT) is a multi-agency group within Garfield County, Colorado.  AHRT not only serves Garfield County, but also the entire Northwest Region of Colorado.  Currently, the five member agencies of ARHT include: the Garfield County  Sheriff’s Office, Glenwood Springs Police Department, Glenwood Springs Fire Department, Rifle   Police Department and the Silt Police Department.  AHRT is currently commanded by Undersheriff Colt Cornelius.

Each year AHRT competes nationally in order to maintain their skills and knowledge.  The Tactical Team competes in the United States National SWAT championships, whereas the Crisis Negotiation Team competes in Crisis Negotiation championships.  Along with the trainings and  competitions, AHRT regularly participates in community events with the intention of educating the public on the All Hazards Response Team   functions.

The All Hazards Response Team obtains their necessary tools and equipment through donation assistance, federal grants and cost  sharing through various local organizations.  The team employs a wide range of equipment, including the LENCO BearCat and the “Green Machine”...."

" On January 12, 2012, six members of The Garfield County All Hazards Response Team competed in the 22nd Annual Crisis Negotiation Competition at Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas.

The competition included 17 crisis negotiations teams from across the United States. The teams were judged based on several categories during an eight hour scenario which included: Active Listening Skills, Team Communications, Intelligence Gathering and Crisis Management Skills.  Judges were comprised of: New York FBI Negotiators, Former Army Negotiators, Texas Department of Public Safety and Texas Ranger Negotiators, just to identify a few.

The Garfield County All Hazards Crisis Negotiations Team brought home the 2^nd place trophy overall, tying with Travis County Crisis Negotiations Team from Texas...."  (Read more?  Click title)

"GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. -- The Grand Junction Police and Mesa County Sheriff's Office SWAT teams have been working along side Fruita Police and the Colorado State Patrol for the past two weeks.

They had a goal in mind and today it was accomplished.


A SWAT armored rescue vehicle, called the "BearCat" rolled into The Salvation Army in Grand Junction...."

"A man accused of firing multiple times at a Garfield County Sheriff’s Department deputy Monday was intoxicated at the time and had a history of getting out of hand when drunk, an arrest affidavit said.

The affidavit said neighbors told investigators that Craig Dance, 61, has been suicidal, and one neighbor said she “had always known that this was going to happen,” referring to Monday’s incident.

Ninth Judicial District Court Judge Denise Lynch on Tuesday set bond at $500,000 in the case.

Dance lives on Westbank Road south of Glenwood Springs. He is accused of firing on a deputy who responded to a welfare check at his home late Monday afternoon. The deputy hid behind his patrol vehicle and was uninjured. The vehicle was struck by multiple bullets.

Dance surrendered peacefully several hours later after holing up in his home. He is being held in Garfield County Jail...."
