SandBoxBlogs; Customs and Border Protection "CBP in Los Angeles Seizes $40 Million in Meth Chemicals Bound for Mexico"

"Los Angeles — U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s (CBP) aggressive enforcement posture against Mexican drug trafficking organizations continue bringing record-breaking drugs seizures beyond the land border, at U.S. airports and seaports.

CBP officers at an air cargo consignment facility of Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) seized two shipments of 80 bags, containing 5,700 pounds of methylamine chloride, a known chemical that is used as a precursor to methamphetamine. If used to make methamphetamine, the street value of this seizure is $40 million.

The shipments arrived from China on April 19 and 23, with a final destination in central Mexico. Samples of the white powdery chemical were positively identified by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) as methylamine chloride, a List 1 controlled substance.

“Once again, we take enormous pride in the exceptional caliber of our officers in intercepting these drug precursors from Asia and preventing their reaching the cartels in Mexico,” said Todd C. Owen, CBP Director of Field Operations, Los Angeles. “The alertness and attention to duty is vital to the mission of CBP in protecting the homeland from all harm, including that of dangerous drugs.”

Methylamine chloride is a corrosive, flammable, strong-odor chemical. In one pathway, it is essential to manufacture methamphetamine and ecstasy. Methylamine chloride is a List 1 controlled substance by the DEA with many legitimate industrial applications in pesticides, solvents and pharmaceutical products.

Suppliers of these products are subject to regulations and control measures. The Controlled Substances Act establishes parameters and strict rules on the manufacture, importation, use and distribution of controlled substances.

On a typical day in fiscal year 2011, CBP seized 13,717 pounds of drugs nationwide.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of our nation's borders at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws."

Let's see if I've got this right.

The mexican drug cartels are buying all the supplies to make the dope from China.

They ship it all via the USA.

USA ships it all down to Mexico.

The cartels cook the dope and then smuggle it back across US borders and into the USA for retail street sales.

And the profits are in the millions of dollars.

And we are criticizing and blaming our agents and cops for - what? Trying to stop it?

No longer wondering why you keep posting all this drug info. Thought it was enough of an education hearing about some of the creative ways they smuggle the junk. But now it all comes together with this news.

We're all inter-related with this malignant cancer called drugs. It's a global thing not jsut a valley thing.

Unbelievable.

"I was reading up after nanny posted that one about Jesus Audel Miramontes-Varela

You know these things exist everywhere but you don't think about them until something comes close to home. Nature of the beast that we don't look past our own backyard most of the time. What was hitting me was how much money's involved. These are huge businesses when you think about it. I've always thought about no sophistication and no structure. Never tied it all up together that these things are all linked together. somehow the terrorists are off in one place in your mind and the gangs are in another. what got me first the most was how much info was coming up on connecting links like this jesus guy before he got caught. felt pretty darn stupid to have the lightbulb come on that before the drugs and cartels come the gangs and the human trafficking. can't finance the drugs and cartels without the cash flow of the gangs and human sacrifices like illegals, mules and prostitutes. was like getting with a major reality check connecting the dots to how I've always instinctive felt about illegals coming across the borders.

if it begins to have major press coverage all because of a legit bust at a local carnival on father's day then so be it. every face that's an illegal face, not just Centeno's, needs to be secured and dealt with. the borders need to be locked down and secured before we can even have a discussion about how to make them be what we all would like them to be in open and legal access. it's too bad and I never thought I would see the day when we have gangs in the area or that cops would let drugs upvalley be accepted outside the law. but we do and their obviously financing bigger things than any of us outside of law enforcement imagine."

that nanny. she's about as subtle as a tornado when she's making a point. reminds me of the time she painter blue taped masking paper all over the mega-bucks fronts of all my cabinets just sitting in the garage waiting pretty for install. she'd smeared drywall mud, paint and tile grout all over them. walked in and turned gray hair faster than any sitting president in history. looked just like some @$$&*% had come into my garage storage and $#@%^*& my job. she found me sitting there a stunned man. didn't say a word, reached over and peeled off the paper and asked me if I wanted to 'adjust' scheduling sequences so that we never had to deal with another trashed out, irreplaceable cabinet installed AFTER painters, tile supposed to be final and BEFORE all the real final coats and punch lists that always end up happening and then dinging the $#@%^&* out of them. Wouldn't I rather just trust my good finish trades, install and protect and prevent all that? Let them do their job one time only?
moral to the story? lose your ego, listen to your nanny, put things in logical sequences and trust your finish trades that if you let them in one time and one time only to do their end work the world will be a happier place. wonder what would happen if we supported our law enforcement everywhere with all the funding they need, put them in logical sequences so that b.s. like these containers from China (they probably placed the order from somewhere in the USA, for god's sake) weren't coming out of our pockets and our borders were secure?
