Don Coleman:
"FRUITA, Colo. -- Voters in Fruita have decided to ban the medical marijuana industry inside city limits in April's municipal election. The final tally was released around 10:15 pm Tuesday after more than 2,800 people cast ballots.
Drawing interest this election were a number of issues and city races, but none may be more controversial than the question regarding an outright ban of medical marijuana operations within city limits.
Referred Issue B, as it was labeled, was passed by an unofficial vote of 2,044 to 754. The vote 'Yes' bans the industry inside city limits. It's a decision that joins Grand Junction and unincorporated Mesa County with similar bans making Palisade the next closest town allowing dispensaries...."

SandBox Comments: Glenwood Springs Post Independent "Many US communities are blocking medical marijuana"
"More and more states are saying yes to medical marijuana. But local governments are increasingly using their laws to just say no, not in our backyard.
In California, with the nation's most permissive medical marijuana laws, 185 cities and counties have banned pot dispensaries entirely. In New Jersey, perhaps the most restrictive of the 17 states that have legalized marijuana for sick people, some groups planning to sell cannabis are struggling to find local governments willing to let them in..."

SandBox Comments: Grand Junction Daily Sentinel "Pitkin County to rethink inaction on medical pot"
Hard to remember why in the world Colorado ever thought it was a wise idea to make medical marijuana legal while marijuana in all forms is illegal on federal levels, isn't it?
Our county and city and state employees can face legal penalties for handling transactions of any kind where MMJ is concerned.
Banks, landlords, lenders and merchant services cannot go anywhere near these MMJ businesses due to the legal ramifications.
We've seen crime numbers where all pot is concerned sky-rocket since the passage of the medical marijuana laws in Colorado. And have no way of knowing until a generation or two passes exactly how much harm to our youth the easy access and exposure has done.
Yet, from what Dennis Webb is bringing us off the Sentinel, we now cannot even place moratoriums on all things MMJ because that too, will bring liability to the folks.

SandBox Comments: Steamboat Today "Our View: Medical marijuana centers should be banned"
This is the most amazing expose' on medical marijuana centers.
Why hasn't the fact that they are not even legal here in Colorado if you interpret the technical and exact wording of the statute; been exposed until now?
"Marijuana centers were born out of Amendment 20, the language of which reads: “An Amendment to the Colorado Constitution authorizing the medical use of marijuana for persons suffering from debilitating medical conditions, and, in connection therewith, establishing an affirmative defense to Colorado criminal laws for patients and their primary caregivers relating to the medical use of marijuana.”
The amendment allows registered patients or their designated caregivers to cultivate and possess marijuana in small amounts to meet the patients’ needs. Referendums 1A, 2A, 2C and 2E would not change that — patients who truly need pot still would have access to it. Instead, the referendums would, effective Jan. 1, shut down the five marijuana centers operating in Routt County — three in Steamboat, one in Oak Creek and one in Milner.
Nothing in Amendment 20 provides for medical marijuana centers. Such centers began cropping up along the Front Range in 2008 as some interpreted the caregiver provision of the law to allow commercial operations to grow and sell significant amounts of marijuana on behalf of registered cardholders. In most cases, including in Routt County, the marijuana businesses began operating before municipalities could put rules in place authorizing or regulating them..."
