SandBox Comments: Glenwood Springs Post Independent/Readers Say Thanks "Thanks for support in film presentation"

This is a great turnout. A special thank you goes out to all supporting officers, agents, agencie and prosecutors who lent their time, caring and expertise to Childhelp's presentation.

"On Feb. 15, Childhelp River Bridge showed a screening of the film “The Playground: The Child Sex Trade in America” at the Glenwood Springs Community Center. The response from our community was overwhelming. More than 140 people attended the event, packing the room.

Human trafficking is not something any of us want to believe exists in our community. The reality of it breaks our hearts. It took courage to view a film about the exploitation of children, and I applaud all who attended.

As Amy Marsh stated in her interview on KDNK, “In order to protect our children, we must know what can harm them.”

We thank our panelists Anne Darr with the FBI, Emma Douglas with COVA, Chris Carter with ICE, Jeff Chaney with the 9th Judicial District Attorney's office and Gayle Embrey, executive producer of the film.

So many local agencies and businesses helped pulled this event together, providing food, lodging for our guests, press coverage and more.

We gratefully thank the Glenwood Springs Police Department, Garfield County Sheriff's Department, The Residence Inn, The Citizen Telegram, the Glenwood Springs Post Independent, KDNK and KMTS radio stations.

Thanks to all for investing their time and willingness to learn more about how we can keep our children safe."
(Lee Martin, victim advocate, Childhelp River Bridge, Glenwood Springs)

SandBox Comments: KKCO News 11 "Indictment: 14 connected with child prostitution ring"

This major story just keeps getting worse and worse for Glenwood Springs.  The commentary all over the state and just hit FOX national a few hours ago is detailed and damning to all the smaller communities this has been going on in.  Not so much on the Front Range communities.

Google alerts coming through on our hotels and tourism, including new directors, promotions and brands have side-by-side links to this bust allegedly having activity in Glenwood's hotels.

And now this:

"A spokesperson for the attorney general's office said they are still investigating other johns who may be involved. No one from Grand Junction has been indicted yet...."  (Read more?  Click title)

What's really troubling is that our local newspaper is not printing follow-up or reaction from our leaders.  Nor these photos to see if anyone from our area lodging industry recognizes having served them.

SandBox Comments: Glenwood Springs Post Independent "Child prostitution ring used Glenwood Springs hotel rooms"

SandBox will not be blocking public commentary on this horrific story that apparently happened right here in Glenwood Springs in some of our hotels.

Why Glenwood Springs?  What's the tie?

"DENVER, Colorado — Colorado Attorney General John Suthers released a grand jury indictment Monday charging four metro Denver residents with running a human-trafficking and child prostitution ring, and another 10 for assisting or patronizing the operation.

The suspects allegedly used hotel rooms in Glenwood Springs, as well as in Grand Junction, Denver, Boulder and Lakewood for “meet-ups” between clients and the child victims.

According to the 70-count indictment, Patrick Lloyd McGowan, 22, Chad Armand Gow, 20, Roy Manuel Ibarra-Gonzales, 20, and Bryan Steven Burns, 20, oversaw a human trafficking ring that involved prostitution of children and sale of methamphetamine and cocaine.

The four men are suspected of arranging “out calls” for their child victims through the Internet and coercing their victims through the use of drugs and threats of violence..."  (Read more?  Click title.)
