SandBoxBlogs: Intellectual Conservative "The Artificial Eight Percent Unemployment Rate Is Immaterial"

Christopher Adamo:
"Liberal media minions are atwitter over the manufactured unemployment statistic which has been steadily lowering in recent months and now approaches the eight percent milestone. Prominent conservatives have also noted the suspiciously timed “drop” in the nation’s unemployment, and are expressing dismay over its blatantly fabricated nature. Yet at the same time they are concerned over its possible effects on the reelection prospects of Barack Obama.

Such apprehension is understandable. Historically a sitting president’s chances for reelection are nil when the unemployment rate exceeds the eight percent threshold. More significant to the present situation however is the fact that the ostensible improvement in the nation’s employment debacle is clearly contrived. The books are being juggled to a degree that makes Enron accounting look downright virtuous. Yet nowhere among the nightly news anchors is it suggested that such manipulations coming from the highest levels of the federal government might be a breach of the peoples’ trust, or more accurately, evidence of a political strategy based on total deceit.

Lengthy analyses of the raw numbers, combined with “revised” data compiled over the past several months, undeniably reveal a serial pattern of falsified government bookkeeping for the purpose of putting a positive face on the unprecedented disaster of Obamanomics. Key players within the Obama team, abetted by their media lapdogs, ominously foreshadow intentions of buttressing the shameless hoax with those unemployment numbers, their end goal being to present the public with a rosy picture of the nation’s economy on Election Day in order to convince everyone that the bliss of Obama’s America needs to be perpetuated....."

SandBoxBlogs: Keith Hennessey "A good Jobs Day"

Keith Hennessey, March 9, 2012:
"The fewest numbers you need to know

This morning the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that in February the U.S. economy created 227,000 net new jobs and the unemployment rate held steady at 8.3%.

We are still 5.3 million jobs shy of peak employment in December 2007 and 864,000 shy of January 2009 when President Obama took office.

Same data, different views
Different audiences look at employment data in different ways:
  • People’s lives are most affected by the level of employment: how many people are working and what is the unemployment rate? At 8.3 percent this number is still bad.
  • As both a policy and political matter, Washington, DC cares about the level, but even more about the direction and rate of change: are we adding or subtracting jobs, is unemployment rising or falling, are we “headed in the right direction?” From this view today’s report offers good news, at least on the jobs created front. I assume the Administration will cite 17 months of continuous job growth. Possibly more significant is that we have had four months of job growth > 150,000/month, which is roughly what you need to keep up with population growth.  The trend continues to be positive, although you should want even bigger numbers since the unemployment rate is still high.
  • Markets and market commentators care even more about how the change compares with expectations before the data was released. Today’s numbers slightly exceeded expectations of about 200,000 net new jobs so the reaction from this perspective should also be positive...."

SandBox Comments: Working Class Conservative/Mike Madden "How to Whack 1.2M Jobs"

Similar to 'Whack-A-Mole', a game played by politicians and media every day...

Mike Madden:

"You are running for election.  For the entire time you were in the position you currently hold the jobs market never got any better.  You kept claiming to have created jobs but the damn unemployment rate kept holding .  Then slowly at a rate that would take 15 years to return the nation to 5% unemployment the jobs started coming back at an agonizingly slow rate.  Quick, you have 10 months to convince everyone you are a good leader and deserve 4 more years, what do you do?

If you are the Obama Administration you have the Bureau of labor and Statistics adjust the way unemployment is gauged.  You do it by blaming 2010 Census data.  How?  Read the following...."

SandBox Comments: Tree of Mamre/John Scotus "Unemployment 9% In October"

Ah, the good 'ol days.

Remember back in Dubya's day when unemployment was only 5%?

Interesting graphs John Scotus has tossed up over on Tree of Mamre.
