SandBox Comments: Grand Junction Daily Sentinel "Pair held in 5-day shooting spree"

SandBox is just at a loss for words on this story out of Grand Junction.

'SandBox Nanny' keeps feeling a sense of what law enforcement has got to be feeling over this one.

You are so appreciated. Thanks so much for your service. A very special thank you here in Garfield County to Garfield County Sheriff and their TAG program.

Stay the course.

Grand Junction Sentinel:
"..According to the affidavit, other events that occurred during the shooting spree include:

Plotner admitting he fired through a home’s second-story window, while Kintz drove. No one was injured, but one of the people in the home, Jered Sawyer, told investigators the shooting may have been in retaliation for gang-related violence. Sawyer told police he had stabbed one of Kintz’s friends during a dispute a couple years ago, and Sawyer had been charged with smashing out the windows of a car of another friend of Kintz.

Sawyer said he is part of the Nortenos gang, and Kintz and his friends are part of a rival gang, the Surenos.

Sawyer also told police Kintz, whom he said is known as “Wedito” on the street, published a song on MySpace that threatened to kill Sawyer.

“Aaron described feeling anger and rage at times and wanting to kill people. He said he told Darian that if he had anyone he needed taken care of, Aaron would do it. Darian talked of past issues with Jered (Sawyer) and showed Aaron, Jered Sawyer’s home.”

On the night of Dec. 27, Plotner shot through the windshield of a parked car outside of Sawyer’s home, but the men didn’t know if it was Sawyer’s vehicle. The following day, at approximately 2:30 p.m., the men returned to the home, 458 Mesa Lake Drive.

“On this occasion Aaron sat in the back seat on the driver side so he could shoot in the direction of Jered’s home. Aaron admitted shooting at the window of the upper level of the home, but did not see anyone.

When asked if he would have felt bad for hitting an occupant, even a 4-year-old that was home, Aaron said he would not have cared and indicated he was hoping to hit someone inside....”

Our house is horrified by this.

Are all voters listening now? There is a very serious gang, drug and cartel problem in Colorado.

The time has come for the politics of law enforcement to be helped out by voters in 2012.

We need more money for these agencies. We need more boots on the ground. We need more training to give them. That one extra city cop for Junction last year when this all started is not going to cut it. Our law enforcement can only do so much without the help of voters to give them the things they need to do their jobs.

Elect prosecutors who will focus only on the job in front of them and who spend all that free time they have left over by just doing that in setting up drug task force operations. Crack down on gangs and drugs and weapons. We do not want to become the front range and the time is now to get a grip on all of this.

Elect congress and senate that will focus on their home state of Colorado. Re-elect Tipton, Gardner and Baumgardner. Make Udall, Bennet and Polis get involved with real problems like these that are statewide and stop harassing the environment. Get an agenda and platform that is actually needed. Same thing goes for Schwartz and DeGette. We have real and pressing issues threatening our children and family security. Get these enviro only politicians focused on real people and real immediate needs.

Thank you to all officers involved with this one, it has to have been awful for you. Thanks so much.

Can't believe that Mesa S.O. is saying they don't consider this "gang-related" just because the shootings were random. Gang affiliated is gang affiliated. Any agency that's not thinkingt here's an influence is just wrong. What was it at the Taco Bell murder? Same thing, "not gang-related and random with some gang members out of CA". Wake up and smell the coffee Sheriff Stan and Chief Camper.

Where are you seeing that Sheriff Stan said something like that, anonymous? Not in this article or post.

Channel 5. SO spokeswoman.

Talk about denial out of the Mesa SO spokesperson. Because the people shot or shot at were not gang members that makes this sick and obviously longtime boiling pot of these 2 kids who are in 2 of the most violent and notorious gangs in country not "gang related"?

If that's the kind of mentality that's dealing with administration in Grand Junction law enforcement, then they've got a lot more serious problem than these 2 kids.

The only way to stop what's bent on hurting you and your way of life and that's refused every chance thrown their way to date; is to eliminate the problem.

Zero tolerance for any gang affiliation. If it's not against the law or ordinances of our towns and cities then we need to get busy changing the laws and ordinances.

Takes your breath away. Saying it again. This cop theory that keeping as much as they can on low profile is not the way to go on this stuff. The way to go is all out zero tolerance policies. Tolerate none of it. Certain levels of group affiliation and activity should be illegal affiliations. Surenos are not the Rotary club. There is a difference and the groups that are that difference are gangs and not welcome associations for any community. Make it illegal to be affiliated. It's not that far fetched of a thought.

I am the now released Darian Kintz and im 27 years old. I will be 28 next month. I just want to say that i was a stupid kid and I am not upset at the people speaking so negatively about me because that was who I WAS. NOT who I AM. I now have a 2 year old son and look forward to raising him to be the kind, courteous, respectful, intelligent little man I wish I wouldve been. And thank you to everyone that has given me a second chance thus far.
