John Stroud:
"GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colorado — The Colorado Mountain College board of trustees is in the process of reviewing a proposed $63.1 million general fund budget for next year.

And the general public can do the same between now and the CMC board's scheduled budget vote on June 18, according to CMC officials.

The draft 2012-13 budget can be viewed at any CMC location, including locally in Glenwood Springs, Spring Valley, Carbondale and Rifle. It can also be found online at http://www.coloradomtn.edu/, under the “Communities & Friends” tab (click on Board of Trustees/Budget & Audit).

The proposed spending budget represents a $4 million increase over the current fiscal year. That's due in part to revenues being slightly higher than projected for this year and continuing into the next fiscal year, according to a summary of the budget proposal.

Total revenues are projected at about $63.3 million, including $46.9 million from property taxes within the multi-county special community college district......"  (Read more? Click title)

SandBoxBlogs: Vail Daily News "Gallegos Corporation creates Colorado Mountain College scholarship"

What a wonderful tribute to Gerald Gallegos.  This one is a very special honor for CMC.  Kudos on this to both the college and Gallegos Corp.

Press Release via Vail Daily:
"EAGLE COUNTY, Colorado — Gerald Gallegos was committed to local philanthropic needs, especially those supporting youth and education. To honor this tradition, The Gallegos Corporation has partnered with the Colorado Mountain College Foundation to create The Gerald G. Gallegos Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship will benefit Eagle County students pursuing an Associates degree or a four-year bachelor's degree at the CMC Edwards campus.

As part of the agreement, CMC named Classroom VE 258 the Gerald G. Gallegos room. In addition to being a classroom with “SmartBoard” technology, the room can be used by corporations or by any group in the region. The Gallegos Corporation recently held a strategic planning retreat in the room.

The scholarship is a natural progression honoring Gallegos' heritage since education was a passion of his. Gallegos was one of the original founders of The Youth Foundation and was an integral part of local education programs for youth from pre-school through higher education. The Gallegos Corporation wanted to continue this legacy with a long -term commitment to students and their education....."

SandboxBlogs: Glenwood Springs Post Independent "CMC bachelor degrees opening new doors"

Congratulations to the CMC First Generation!

John Stroud:
"GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colorado — Colorado Mountain College might not be home to iconic marble and granite academic halls lining grassy, tree-lined quads. But the hometown community college now does have something in common with the big college campuses.

Starting in the spring of 2013, CMC will begin graduating its first-ever bachelor degree students.

The current 2011-12 academic year is the first time CMC has offered bachelor's degree programs at its numerous locations throughout north-central Colorado.

Strictly a two-year junior college up until now, CMC earned approval in 2010 from Colorado higher education officials and the state Legislature to begin offering limited four-year degrees...."
