SandBoxBlogs: Summit County Citizens Voice "Morning photo: More spring!"

Bob Berwyn:
"SUMMIT COUNTY — Fall aspen season, when the leaves turn, is rightly hailed as one of the most spectacular times of year in the high country, with splashy colors and crisp air. But the spring transition, when the trees go from bare bones to flickering green in just a few days, is equally stunning, although a bit more subtle. It’s a little harder to capture the tender green of emerging aspen leaves, since the display is not quite as showy....."  (Click title)

SandBoxBlogs: Summit County Citizens Voice "Morning photo: Moonshine"

The 'supermoon' coming full tonight, gave Glenwood Springs a glimpse last night of what to expect.  So 'close', one felt they could simply reach up and touch.

Bob Berwyn's 'Moonshine', over, up and down on the Summit County Citizens Voice today is a real treat.  All credit for photos within this post goes to Bob.

I am also reminded of two very special astrophotographers in the area.  Daniel McVey over in Summit County (click here) and Professor Jimmy Westlake over in Steamboat Springs. (Click here and here)

If unfamiliar with the craft, art and science of astrophotography then I encourage you to take a look.  Stargazing and moon dreaming are wonderful hobbies.

Bob Berwyn:
"SUMMIT COUNTY — With a ‘supermoon’ coming tonight, I went out to do some low-light iPhone test shots. Turns out the little camera does some interesting things as the sky transitions from daylight to night. It wants to light up the scene as if it were daylight. I haven’t delved into all the various apps yet, though I’m sure there are some that would help capture a more “real” lightscape, but it was still fun using the Instagram filters to add some effects to the evening show along the shore of Dillon Reservoir. The supermoon, by the way, is when the full moon coincides with our satellite’s closest approach to Earth. Astronomers say the orb can appear 14 percent bigger and 20 percent than a standard full moon...."

SandBoxBlogs: USMCZen "Your moment of Zen"

Catching up on the inbox and posted comments since last evening, along with the wide range of news stories in today's aggregate roundup; 'SandBox Nanny' has the overwhelming urge to find an odd mix of warriors and pacifists somewhere out there in avatar land.  Just to make it through your day in one piece...

My goodness.  Such a wide range of emotions and expressed sentiments you all have, 'kids'...

To start that kind of a day, she has decided to call on the watchful eye of retired US Marine Kevin McIntyre.  For her very own 'Moment of Zen".

"SUMMIT COUNTY — Bookending the day with some sunrise and sunset shots around Dillon reservoir. And yes, I am slightly obsessed with the iPhone, though I regretted I didn’t have my DSLR with me when the Pine Cove sunset turned fiery....." (See more?  Click title)

SandBoxBlogs: Summit County Citizens Voice "Morning photo: Summit view"

All photo credit:  Ed Carley

"I’ve been taking photos of mountains since 2002 when I moved to Boone, North Carolina to attend Appalachian State University, and where I began carrying a camera with me on my hiking and rock climbing adventures. My first taste of the Colorado Rockies came in 2003 when I spent the summer living in Crested Butte and mountain biking in every spare moment. I moved to Summit County in 2007 and have been a full time resident since then. In that time I’ve carried my camera with me on many hiking, biking and snowboarding excursions in to these amazing mountains. I’m happy to share my photos with Summit County Citizens Voice readers....." (follow @ed_carley or click credit link)

SandBoxBlogs: Summit County Citizens Voice "Morning Photo: Easter Sunday"

Bob Berwyn:
"SUMMIT COUNTY — I was determined to wake up in time to catch a few shots of the post-full moon setting over the Gore Range this weekend, and had ambitious plans to visit a new spot for the occasion. But when I woke up Sunday morning, the moon was already hanging low over Mt. Royal. I skipped coffee, jumped into my jeans and headed to my standby spot along Dillon Dam Road, where I have an idea of what to expect in terms of lighting and reflections. I was hoping for a bit more color in the sky, but it was a gloriously still morning. I would have been happy to be out there, even without a camera..."

SandBoxBlogs: Summit County Citizens Voice "Morning photo: Vanishing ice"

Oh, Happy Day!

The news agg roundup is soooo..much 'lighter' today than it has been over the past few weeks.  President Barack Obama is (somewhat) quietly contemplating court orders, the Feds have left Aspen, Sheriff Joe has put his foot down, boots on the ground everywhere are on mission and on point, municipal elections are over and thank heaven for brokered convention ability.

(rolls eyes....pours herself a fresh cuppa...pushes her tri-focals up and gets down to the daily news..)

Let's start the morning off with a word to the wise from Bob Berwyn and a glimpse of some of our favorite bathing beauties and the ice flows in their backyards.  Up and over on the Summit County Citizens Voice.

Bob Berwyn:
"SUMMIT COUNTY — A major new review of scientific studies from the Arctic and Antarctic suggests that the polar regions of the world are changing even faster than expected, as major ice sheets melt away. There’s a lot at stake …"  (Read more?  See more?  Click title and all links within posts)

SandBoxBlogs: Summit County Citizens Voice "Morning Photo: The kids are alright!"

Bob Berwyn:
"SUMMIT COUNTY — Taking pictures of kids always makes me smile. When you capture a moment — like the picture above — you realize anew that there’s a whole world going inside of them. If you’re a parent, or spend a lot of time around youngsters, you know that anyway, but a good snapshot is, as they say, priceless...."
